The Farrelly brothers have made many great comedies in the past and a few not so good ones. Unfortunately there lastest film is one of the latter. This film stars Ben Stiller as Eddie Cantrow, a forty year-old sporting good store owner who has never been able to commit himself to get married. His recent fiance of seven years is marrying someone else and Eddie is in shambles. He then meets Lila(Malin Akerman), an environmental researcher and falls in love with her. After increase pressure from his father(Jerry Stiller) and best friend(Rob Corddry) he decides to marry her after only 6 weeks of dating. While on there honeymoon Eddie meets the real Lila. She's actually unemployed, owes thousands of dollars, immature, and a monster in bed. Eddie is devasted until he meets Miranda(Michelle Monaghan) and falls in love with her. Eddie then has the difficult task of telling his current wife he wants a divorce and keeping Miranda from knowing he is married. This film also stars Carlos Mencia. This film is a disaster. The jokes are mostly not funny and poor Ben Stiller really doesn't have much to work with. Akerman has alot of talent, but its wasted since she basically has spend the film making Stiller's character hate her. Monaghan does give a charming performance as Miranda, but she to isn't given much to work with. Also, Carlos Mencia seemed to just borrow one of Rob Schneider's embarrasing roles in Adam Sandler films and used it in this role. This is just an unfunny mess. |
