This second adaption of the H.G. Wells book is the latest film from Steven Speilberg. Tom Cruise stars as Ray Ferrier, a working class man whose thinks nothing other then himself. He is divorced and has too children. One day when his children visit, a unusual storm takes place and then alien tripods come out of the ground and attack Earth. Ray must do everything in his powerful to protect his children until it hopefully boils over. Dakota Fanning and Tim Robbins also star. This isn't one of Speilberg's better films, but it is still entertaining. The special effects are well done. The alien invasions look spectacular. The acting is good as well. Dakota Fanning turns in a wondeful performance as Cruise's daughter. I also like how this movie focused simply on a few characters and the survival. Nothing was on a national scale. We didn't have to go to the White House and watch the president and others try to figure out how to beat the aliens. The major flaw in the movie is the lackluster ending. Were sort of left out of the cold in terms of what happened to the aliens. Nontheless the special effects and acting make this film worth the price of admission. |
