Every year there is about a handful, maybe a little more, movies that come that aren't bad, but are as I like reference them, just another movie. They have big name actors, but don't amount to much in the box office. They are probably films you will think about seeing, but then look at the other movies that are out and then decide to wait until it comes on video. This is one of those films. Pierce Brosnan stars as Max and his girlfriend Lola(Salma Hayak) as two master thiefs who have stolen so much jewels in the past they decided it is time to move to Paradise Island and retire. FBI Agent Stan Lloyd(Woody Harrelson) has been trying to catch Max and Lola for years, but always falls short. He also doesn't by the sudden retirement of Max and Lola expecially with a very famous diamond aboard a ship that will be docked on Paradise Island for a week. Lloyd then sets out to pull all the stops just in case Max and Lola try anything. I have seen many crime movies. In fact I just saw one earlier this year that involved a heist on a boat. Generally I like them. This one however, falls short. I did really enjoy the performance by Selma Hayak in this film, but the script fails. We spend almost the entire time building up for this anticipated heist that doesn't really amount to anything. I did laugh on occation, but not enough for a recommendation. If you have some time on a rainy day and have about $3 laying around. Go to the video store and rent it. Otherwise, you aren't missing much...except Salma Hayek in a bikini. |
