Adrian Brody stars as Jack Starks, an ex-soldier who is wrongly accused of a cop's murder and is only found not guilty because he can't remember what happened and is considered insane. Starks is then placed in a mental hospital where he is treated by Dr. Thomas Becker(Kris Kristofferson) and is cared for by Dr. Lorenson(Jennifer Jason Leigh). The treatment given to Starks by Dr. Becker consists of being put in a jacket, given heavy doses of experimental drugs and being put locked in a cabinet drawer for a period of time. While in the drawer Starks somehow manages to see into the future and meets a grown up version of a girl name Jackie(Keira Knightley) who he met shortly before his supposed crime and also finds out he dies 4 days from the actual date it is now. With the help of Jackie, Jack must find out how he dies and hope to prevent it from happening. This was one of the most depressing films I have ever scene that made no sense. First off I do not understand the point of the treatment in this film. I don't get how it is that Starks can magically see in the future. Maybe he uses the butterfly effect or something. I don't know. The performances are all lackluster. Kirstofferson seemed like he was borrowing his character from the Blade movies and making a doctor out of it. The relationship between Jack and Jackie is just plan weird. I think you get the picture I didn't like this film. |
