If their was a Oscar for the most boring film of the year, this film would wipe away the competition. Sean Penn stars as Willie Stark, who is talked into running for Governor of Louisiana. However, when he finds out he just being used, he takes matters into his own hands and runs his own campaign and wins the election. When he becomes Governor, many people disagree with his political views, and try to impeach him. This film also stars Jude Law, Patricia Clarkson, Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins. As I said. this film is very boring. There were only a few moments of interest and laughter that included Penn giving a speech standing in a small boat and talking to all the fisherman on the lake. Other then that the material is very dry. The film is narrated by Law's character which is a misfire. There is way to much time spent on a lost love of his from the past that you simply could care less about. The film just keeps coming back to this love story that puts out whatever spark the film had in the first place. Penn gives a great performance, but it is utterly wasted in this boring film. |
