Ran away from home and joined the Army in Lethbridge, Alberta. Since he was under age he assumed the name James Thomas which were his first and third given names. Listed his birthday as January 15, 1898. Landed in France on November 14, 1916. By February 1917, he is on the front line and the bullets are flying. Decided he had made a mistake, went to the Army Brass and advised he was under age to be in the Army and they should send him back to Canada. They disagreed and he stayed in the front line until wounded in August 1917. |
