World War II
Bill trained in several stations and received his Bobardier Wings in August 1943 at # 7 B & G School in Paulson, Manitoba.  After embarkation leave he arrived overseas October, 1943.  After further training, Bill joined his crew in February 1944.  He flew his Ops from 434 Squadron, Darlington.  His Lancaster aircraft failed to return from a mission over the Rhur Valley, July 29, 1944.  Later word was received from captured German documents that Bill and their rear gunner P/O G. M. Larsen were buried in St. Peter's Cemetery, Kiel, Germany.  Re-interred Canada Commonwealth Cemetery, Kiel Germany.
Fartown Airman Awarded Operational Wings Posthumously
Mrs. E. W. Chapman has recently received the Gold Operational Wings and accompanying certificate awarded to her late husband, F. O. E. W. Chapman for gallant services durning the Second World War.

F. O. Chapman better known as "Bill" was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Chapman of Marshall.  Reported as "missing" following air operations over Hamburg, Germany on July 29, 1944, it was later learned through captured German documents, that he was buried at St. Peter's, Germany.
