Killed in Action October 28, 1944 at the age of 24 years.  Joined the Saskatchewan Horse Regiment at Dundurn July 24, 1940.  Discharged and enlisted in the Air Force at Hamiltion February 7, 1941.  Became a pilot on October 21, 1942.  Embarked from Halifax to England October 22, 1943.  He became a member of the 419 Moose Squadron (Moosa Aswayita).  Pilot Officer Nelligan was killed during his fifth operation, Target -- Cologne, Germany.  The Lancaster Aircraft was shot down near Hurth, Germany; four miles south east of the target.  Other members of the crew were J. A. Natxiger, J. R. Fitchner, P/O W. H. Herman, F/S B. E. Greenhalgh, and Sergeant W. E. Hawkings (RAF).  This was the fifth trip for this crew, but the aircraft had been used on 52 operations.  F/O Nelligan was buried at Hurth, Germany, exhumed and reburied in Reichswald Forest Cemetery, Kleve, Germany.

Flight Lieuthenant Nelligan was the son of James and Annie Nelligan of Lashburn, Saskatchewan.
