The history of the Lashburn Bluebirds dates back to the mid sixties. The Bluebirds always had the support of the fantastic fans and talented players which enabled them to evolve into various teams from Midget to Intermediate, Junior and Senior. During the seventies and eighties the Bluebirds enjoyed many successes at the provincial level as well as at the national level. After leaving the Bluebirds some of the players went on to compete at the international level and became coaches well respected in the sport of softball. The most notable of these people is Brenda Staniforth, Team Canada's pitching coach. The 2001 version of the Bluebirds has been competing at the competitive level for eight seasons and has represented Lashburn at provinicial championships for each of those years. A small, but strong core of players have been with the team for the entire time. The team began at the Squirt "C" level and has progressed to the the Midget "A" for the past two years. The Bluebirds were Squirt "C" provinicial champions in 1995 and Bantam "B" provincial champions in 1998. In the true spirit of the Lashburn Bluebirds, we are fortunate to have an enthusiastic and talented group of players and coaches who have made a huge committment so as to develop a team that is competitive. |
