The Lashburn Midget Bluebirds continue their prpearations for the 2001 Midget Girls Canadian Fast Pitch Championships.  The team will be playing in the Lloydminster League as well as attending a number of high profile tournaments.  On Sunday, May 13, the girls host Unity for a double header commencing at 1:00 p. m.

Coach Garvin Fesyk looks forward to the long weekend tournament in Moose Jaw.  He feels that "the tournament will be an early season indicator of the calibre of ball the Bluebirds will see all year."  Lashburn will be playing in a pool that includes powerhouses such as the Saskatoon Grand Slam Selects, the Winnipeg Terminators, the Edmonton Jaguars and the Winnipeg Southwind Rebels

The Midget Bluebirds will also be featuring their line-up in a media project during the next month.

The Lashburn Midget Bluebirds got off to a good 2001 start by winning three consecutive games over the weekend.  Thursday night saw Shannon Weiman and Mandi Looy combine for a 3 hitter in a 7 - 2 victory over the Lloydminster Pee Wee Boys team.

On Sunday, Kristin Hildebrandt and Shannon Weiman combined for a 1 hitter in a 6 - 0 win over the Unity Midgets.  In the second game of the double header, Mandi Looy and Lori Lypkie co-ordinated a 2 hitter in a 4 - 0 victory for the home team.

The Bluebirds are busy preparing for the Moose Jaw Invitational tournament to be held on May 18 - 19.  It is expected that the finest teams in the prairie provinces will provide the opposition for the Bluebirds as they prepare for their host role in the 2001 Midget National Fastpitch Championships from July 29 to August 5 in Lashburn
