| This text refers to the US video released by the Vestron Video label in the 80's. It has long since gone out of print, but can be picked up at several video stores throughout America. Check-out Ebay. Rated: Unrated Released by: Vestron Video Approximate Runtime: 82 mins Format: NTSC (America and Canada) Sound: Stereo This is a well sought-after release by 'Last House' enthusiasts, since it marks the first video release of the film in America. However, it is highly cut compared to other releases, even though the box art claimed it to be 'uncut'. It was a popular purchase during the 80's, and wasn't replaced with a better edition until the late 90's, when MGM released a much better video. Most of the gore is cut, particularly the disembowlment, which has since been restored on the MGM DVD. A worthy collector's item, this release has some value, considering it was released in the era of the 'Video Nasties'. |
| Picture Next to current releases, and others from the era, this looks terrible. It is an old transfer of the film, though it wasn't carefully duplicated in the first place. The nature of the movie's low budget helps to keep the picture poor, though the overall resolution could have been crisper. The MGM video release years later still had a better transfer, and this is almost unwatchable today, due to better quality versions. Sound Like most video releases, it appears in stereo, though it ultimately depends on your television and sound capabilities. Copies of this version will no doubt have distorted sound now, since it was released all those years ago. However, it has been documented that the video did have highly muffled sound in places, and the music wasn't always clear. Yet again, this has been bettered due to modern technology. Overall 'Last House' enthusiasts will want this version, especially die-hard collectors, though new followers of the film should check-out the new versions. It does include the chicken truck scene and the end credits, which were missing from other versions in the period of it's release. |
