Indonesia seeks US cooperation in student probe
Indonesian police have asked the United States for access to captured Muslim
militant, Hambali, saying questioning him is crucial for investigating other suspects,
including his brother.
Hambali's younger brother was among six Indonesian students detained in Pakistan
in September for suspected terror links and returned to Indonesia this week.
National Police Chief, General Da'i Bachtiar, says access to Indonesian-born
Hambali, who was arrested by US agents in Thailand last August, will help clear up
many terror investigations.
General Bachtiar also says Hambali should be processed in Indonesia because of his
alleged involvement in a number of cases in the country.
Hambali is accused of being a top commander of Jemaah Islamiah, a Southeast
Asian Muslim militant group.
