The Agony of De Feet!
After my shins became inflamed I laced my shoes very loosely and only up to the second eyelet from the top.  I cut about 1 cm off of the tongue of my shoe, and also cut the cuff off my socks to remove pressure from the tendons of the ankle and shin.
Don Winkley cut the toe box out of his shoes.  He wears nylons under his socks to prevent blisters.
Remy Normand's feet were so swollen that he removed his laces.  To hold the shoe on his foot he literally taped it to his leg!
Some days I walked with bags of ice taped to my shins.  We devised a system using ziplock bags so that we could add ice quickly on the go.  Mike became expert at acquiring ice from bars and super-markets (you simply can not buy ice in France).
