I am not one that will modify
my way of thinking to reform with today’s philosophies and acceptance to
what once was not tolerated.
Rather than accepting and taking responsibility for our actions, we find excuses so that we can place blame on anything other than ourselves. We have choices in our lives and it is up to the individual to make the right ones. I look at our society today and wonder if the choices that our governments, social workers and churches have made are right ones. Look at the crime rate and drug dependency. These two areas have escalated to a point that it has become uncontrollable and why? I guess some would justifiably say that the crime rate and drug dependency go hand in hand and with out proof and statistics I would have to agree. The problem with drug use has augmented to a degree that isn’t just because it is openly reported now, it’s out there and it’s not socially bias. We have made it too easy for dependants on intravenous drugs. We supply clean needles, I’m not so much against that one, but we have also provide methadone with unsafe and lazy rules, giving what could have been good, another area for abuse. I am certain that there are genuine people that are on methadone, using it in the correct way and I don’t and wouldn’t impede on them. Unfortunately there are many more that are abusing this help making it hard for those who are legitimate. I am fully aware that there are many active drug users on methadone, which are able to give clean urine samples. There are many that use their methadone as simple top ups for when they are running low or without and if this is no secret to me; I can’t see our officials being unaware of this problem. We have now given shelters for drug users to be able to go and freely use what is an illegal drug. This I find the most disturbing of all. This is NOT sending out the correct messages and I don’t believe that the intent to monitor possible over doses and help in any other areas is worth the message that it conveys. Having the choice of the needle exchange would obviously be more affective in the drop of sharing needles other than that it has not, as far as I’m concerned, actually helped in the eradication of discarded needles in public areas. Without thought, all the effort, money and time that has been placed in the drug problem has all but made it socially acceptable. We live in a dependant society as it is and it’s not getting much better. I feel for my children as they grow up in an era that is so weak. Just my thoughts anyway! Lavinia
