In Loving Memory of My Grandfather

This Page is dedicated to my grandfather, William Fenton Tanner
who was lost at sea in November 1942, from the "Arthur J. Lynn".
He was only 39 years of age, married with 4 children.
He was a sea Captain from Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia.
Fishing was their life's blood; they lived by the sea and died by
the sea. Hence, it is known as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic."
I never got to know you, but you've always been in my Heart and Soul.

And all the other brave souls who were claimed by the sea.

I Did Not Die
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars, that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

A Sailor's Prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Grant no other sailor take my shoes and socks before I wake.
Lord, grant me in my slumber,
And keep my hammock on its number.
May no clews or lashings break, and let me down before I wake.
Keep me safely in thy sight, and grant no fire drill tonight,
And in the morning let me wake breathing scents of sirloin steak.
God protect me in my dreams and make this better than it seems.
Grant that time may swiftly fly, when I myself shall rest on high.
In a snowy feather bed, where I long to rest my head,
Far away from all these scenes from the smell of half tone beans.
Take me back into the land
Where they don't scrub down with sand,
Where no demon typhoon blows; where women wash the clothes.
God thou knowest all my woes, feed me in my dying throes.
Take me back, I promise then, never to leave home again.
For one last trip from port I'll ship,
But next time back I'm swearing
I'll settle down in my hometown, no more I'll go seafaring.
So when my cruise is over and I soar to heights unknown
And I kneel before you, Lord, as you sit on
Judgment's Throne.
As you contemplate some small reward
That you think applies to me,
Just assign me to Your fastest ship on Your Eternal Sea.

This plaque is dedicated to my Grandmother who I respected, loved
and cherished. She always made me feel special. She was my guiding
light, my inspiration, and will be forever missed and always loved.

(Nanny's Favourite Bible Scripture)
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want;
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside still waters;
He restoreeth my soul.
He leadeth me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff,
they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies;
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
for ever.
Psalm 23

Let us remember that death is not the end,
but the beginning. As the sun sets in our
world, the sun is just rising for others.
