Fixture: Hindley 4 v Standish 1

MOM: Christopher Ochwat
Match Comment:
Final game for Standish U16 team this season, unfortunately ended up with the same result a loss.
First Half - Speculative shot from Hindley early in the game had a wicked bounce in front of the Standish keeper looping over his head and into the net, 1  Hindley. For all of the possession Hindley had in the first half they never looked like scoring again and the score remained 1 - 0 Hindley at half time.
Second Half - Hindley started again this half with plenty of possession and scored a second  third goal to go 3 - 1 up. Standish continued to scrap for the ball and at last some enterprising play saw Mike Poole go0 free and from an acute angle score the only Standish goal 3 - 1 Hindley. Just prior to this a wicked shot from Chris Ochwat some 35 yards out almost caught the Hindley keeper napping. Hindley went onto to score a forth goal soon afterwards and the final score was Hindley 4 - Standish 1
Signing off for the last time, yours in sport.

Blackbrook 3 RingleyPark 3
A draw was probably a fair result for this top-of-the-table clash. Both sides probably thought they could and should have won it. It was a hard fought sporting encounter well controlled by Russ Neale where both sides exhibited skills on a decent pitch. Ringley's effectiveness on the right wing was obvious.
Blackbrook almost scored immediately when an astute Adam Gilchrist pass found John MacGowan who shot narrowly wide. On 5m a five-man passing movement ended with Liam Philpott hammering the ball just past the post. Meanwhile Ringley always looked dangerous in attack, especially on the right, and on 9m opened the scoring with a good goal. Excellent end-to-end play ensued and on 20m Adam Gilchrist, who was superb throughout, equalised from a difficult chance. A minute later splendid interplay between Adam Gilchrist and Gareth Thomas was thwarted by a great save by the Ringley 'keeper.
On 26m Ringley were thwarted by an even better save by Blackbrook's Sean Milligan. On 29m it could have been 2-1 to Blackbrook but John MacGowan had a shot under pressure when a pass to either of two unmarked colleagues should have had a better dividend. Ringley were disappointed to have two goals disallowed for offside on 33m and 35m. Just before the break a clever Carl McConville, Liam Philpott interchange almost resulted in a second Blackbrook goal.
One of Ringley's strengths is their clinical finishing ability. Consequently it was a relief on 44m when an excellent chance was spurned following a superb passage of play. On 47m Blackbrook took the lead when hard work by Liam Philpott paid off when his accurate pass was dispatched by the excellent Adam Gilchrist. 55m saw a Ringley equaliser, again following a good passage of play down the right and on 62m yet another splendid save by Sean Milligan prevented Ringley taking the lead. On 68m the indefatigable and penetrative Gareth Thomas was fouled in the penalty area. The usually dependable Adam Ford shot over the bar, but four minutes later it became 3-2 when an incisive Adam Gilchrist pass found Gareth Thomas who made no mistake. Ringley then pressed relentlessly and were rewarded with an equaliser on 75m.
Wakefield Villa 6 v Bedford Rangers 4.
A clear crisp, sunny Saturday morning at Blauegate Skelmersdale saw two teams keen to impress play out a ten goal thriller. The ;goals came early with a Philbin corner turned in by the Bedford Keeper. in the second minute. Worse was to come with Villa striding ahead with further goals from Weir and Doyle to lead 3-0 by 17 minutes. Villa looked to be unstoppable but Bedford started to fight back and had most of the possession in the last ten minutes of the half.
The second half saw Rangers push on and come back to 3-2. Villa would not go down at home and a goal from Harrison seamed to put the game out of touch for Bedford. However, Rangers kept their pressure up Weir scored again and at 5-3 Rangers serged again. With the game finely balanced and attacks at both ends Bedford converted to edge back in. Not to be out done or lose any points Villa camped out in the Bedford half  a final goal from Beard to settle the tie at Wakefield; 6 Bedford 4.
Superb advertisement for Saturday Football.
