Hindsford 6 Blackbrook 3
This was an excellent win for a depleted Hindsford side. Blackbrook in the first half were lethargic and complacent with constant ball-watching exacerbated by unusually sloppy goalkeeping. Perhaps the 4 games per week schedule is causing tiredness or was it the thought of Sunday's semi-final at Rainhill?.
On 5m James Fairhurst kicked off the line, thus preventing a score but on 10m a lack of challenge from Blackbrook's defence enabled Hindsford to open the scoring. Two minutes later Gareth Thomas tapped in an equaliser following a John MacGowan shot being palmed out by the Hindsford 'keeper. Hindsford were playing well and it was not suprising when further goals wre scored on 22m and 26m.The fourth one came as a result of 'fancy-dan' football being indulged in. On 32m Gareth Thomas, again by far Blackbrook's effective player, had a penetrative 40 metre run which resulted in an accurate James Fairhurst shot being well saved. Sadly this failed to inspire the rest of the team and on 35m it became 4-1 following an uncharacteristic error by 'keeper Sean Milligan.
Half-time words seemed to have an effect as Blackbrook at last began to compete and show patches of the good football they are capable of. On 55m an impressive passage of play involving several players enabled Gareth Thomas to make it 4-2. Blackbrook were now in attack mode which allowed Hindsford to snatch goals on 69m and 72m, but they kept up the pressure and Adam Ford, Blackbrook's best defender today, deservedly scored.
