About The Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators go way back to the early 1920's before hockey became well known to the world. During a period of about 20 or so years in the NHL the Ottawa Senators won a total of 8 Championships. They did however fold in the later years and left the only ontario hockey team the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1992 after nearly 70 years, the nation's capital would finally get another NHL hockey team. The Ottawa Senators were reborn. Ottawa was pumped about being a part of the NHL. They entered the league as an expansion team along with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Their first season in the league would prove to be a shaky one as everyone knew it would only be a matter of time before this rookie expansion team would become a stanley cup contender. As time has gone by fans have been rewarded with an excellent team. And have gone through good and bad times. ALong with a variety of great players passing through the organization. And as everyone can remember the Alexei Yashin scandal. Not one of the great memories of the team but therare some good ones as Ottawa progressed they clinched their first playoff birth in 1997. Even though they were eliminated by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round the Ottawa Senators were finally looking like a contender.Today as Senators fans watch their team play they realize just how much they have progressed since first entering the league in 1992. The Ottawa Senators have made the playoffs every season for the last 6 years and have made it all the way to the conference finals. They have won the president's trophy as well for most points during a season by a team. They now finally have a team that the fans have long waited for. A team that will keep getting better and better. And for sure will win a stanley cup very soon! and maybe even more....
