Welcome to the NCC Sennenhund Club! This is a club for cyber Sennenhunds! What the heck is a Sennenhund, you ask? Well, you've come to the right place.
The Sennehunds are the Swiss Mountain Dogs, all decended from the ancient Roman Molossus, brought to Switzerland by invading Roman legions. The four breeds of modern Sennehund, though clearly different, can immediately be identified by the distinctive tri-colored markings they all share.
~ The Appenzeller Sennenhund, also known as the Appenzell Cattledog or Appensell Mountain Dog, was originally used to herd goats. It can easily be distinguished by its tail, which is curved over its back spitz style.
~ The Berner Sennenhund, more commonly called the Bernese Mountain Dog, is probably the best known of the four. The only longhaired Sennenhund, this dog was originally bred to pull weavers' carts.
~ The Entelbucher Sennenhund, also known as the Entlebuch Cattledog, Entelbucher, or Entelbuch Mountain Dog, is the smallest of the four Sennehunds. Its original function was driving cattle.
~ The Grosser Schweizer Sennenhund, AKA Great Swiss Mountain Dog, is a sight to behold. The largest of the four Sennenhunds, its original purpose was pulling heavy farmers' carts.
