Candaba has the right soil and water to raise and breed quality Koi. This is why the local government of Candaba, Pampanga under the leadership of Mayor Jerry Pelayo, is pushing for further development of the Koi industry within its scope.

Already, several hectares of fishponds in Candaba that used to raise tilapia now contain Koi. Koi grows very fast in these ponds.

As envisioned by the local government of Candaba, Koi farming will be an alternative business endevour for fishpond operators who are experiencing over-production of tilapia and low farm-gate prices.

The Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Fisheries is expected to provide technical assistance while the Department of Trade and Industry will assist in marketing abroad.
