"The Betrayal "

Bewitched by the moment, betrayed by mock trust;
She longed for true love, he preyed for pure lust.

Her fate was sealed as she believed in his line,
His promise of truth more intoxicating than wine.

The motive was greed, the girl a pawn in his plan;
But she saw what she yearned for, and not the real man.

He beseiged her to marry and merge all that they'd saved
He offered her nothing, but gained the fortune she'd made.

Soon after vows were spoken, his mood began to change

Realizing the pain of her error, her spirit wounded and weak
She became what he molded, a servant quiet and meek.

Though her docile behavior never reaped a reward
His treatment of her pierced her soul like a sword.

She lost more and more feeling, til she knew not herself
He knew nothing of mercy, loved only power and wealth.

Her future dragged before her, no cherished moments to spend
Stealing out beneath the trees, crying softly to the wind.

His violence grew stronger to the woman and child
But despite all cruel damage, she remained meek and mild.

Whether delivered by fist or slander, could never be known
But one day that Autumn something swiftly hit home.

Her mind reeled in anger, so futile was her life
She vowed means to an end, and weilded a knife.

Surprise in her favor, his mocking laugh filled the room
His disbelief in her strength was his destiny to doom.

Her weapon found flesh, sunk deep to the bone
Then lashing twice more, he fell bloody and alone.

The spell at last broken, no chains left to bind
She left the man lying, walked past him as if blind.

Blood flowed all around him, with no one there to see
For the woman kept walking, she finally was free.
