For Those Nurses Who Gave All
 For Diana,
 and all of the others,
 thank you.

We laughed and joked our way through school
 Fine nurses we would be
It takes a sense of humor, friends
The naked side of life to see.

At last we walked out to our lives
 Some never nursed at all
And there were some who saw the need
And answered yes to duty's call.

These were the girls who went to war
 And there to women grew
And war laid on a mighty toll
And claimed them, quite a few.

Some died in war, their hands at work
To mend those in their care
And others lived but died inside
And death still lives in there.

The pall of death, a heavy shroud
 That hangs before their eyes
 The wounded bodies beyond hope
Young souls then crushed by lies.

Their hands could not keep all alive
 Their nursing skills were keen
 But war inflicts and overwhelms
 No rules in that machine.

Now, many hide from open view
 Those healers who gave all
And who will heal their wounded hearts?
 Who hears their silent call?

Let us as sister nurses rise
 And lend a helping hand
Acknowledge those who gave their all
 In some far, foreign land.
