Autocross
This is my 2001 Mazda Miata taking a hard turn on the autocross course.

Autocrossing is a great way to drive your car to it's performance limits without unnecessary risk to your safety, your car, or your driver's licence. On weekends all around the US, drivers race, one by one, around a series of cones to see how fast they can complete the course.

I usually race at events sponsored by the Sports Car Club of America, but a number of other clubs also conduct them. Cars are inspected for safety and classified by horsepower, weight, and handling ability so that you compete against similar cars. About the only cars that cannot compete are tippy SUV's and trucks. The course will usually take about a minute to complete, and there's nothing to hit but a soft plastic traffic cone.

Try it if you haven't yet.
