John Gotti

(New York)

8/29/91 The Chicago Tribune

A Federal Judge has postponed the starting date of Reputed Mafia Boss John Gottis trial on murder and racketeering charges to allow his new lawyer time to prepare. Brooklyn Federal Judge I. Leo Glasser adjourned the trial from its September 30(1991) starting date and gave Miami-based lawyer Albert Krieger until January 15, 1992 to prepare a defense for Gotti. Bruce Cutler, Gottis long time lawyer, was disqualified in July from representing Gotti. Prosecutors argued that Cutlers represent ion on secret tape recordings presented a conflict of interest that made it impossible for him to serve as Gottis lawyer. Gotti and three others- reputed underboss Frank Locasco, Salvatore Gravano, and Thomas Gambino- are charged with racketeering, murder, gambling, loan sharking, extortion, obstruction of justice and tax evasion.
