Quick Summary
"Lilo and Stitch" is the extraodinary story of a young Hawaiin girl, Lilo, and her encounter with the galaxy's most wanted being; an illegal genetic experiment: Experiment 626. When Jumba Jookiba, creator of 626, is convicted and put into prison, 626 is sentenced to exile on a far, deserted asteroid. However, 626 escapes and high-tails it away, leaving the Galactic Federation Council in a frantic panic. The council decides to send the only person who has knowledge of 626 to retrieve him: Dr. Jumba Jookiba. In return for Stitch's capture, The Grand Councilman offers Jumba his freedom. The Ground Councilwoman sends the geneticist, and 'Earth Expert' Pleakley, down to capture Stitch from the location he has crash-landed: Kauai, Hawaii.

Upon crash landing on Earth, Experiment 626 is taken away, unconcious, to a nearby dog pound/kennel. Meanwhile, Lilo Pelekai and her older sister, and guardian, Nani, are having major troubles of their own. Nani is being hounded by a persistent social worker, Marion "Cobra" Bubbles, who is trying to decide whether she is worthy of taking care of Lilo on her own. Lilo isn't quite the average little girl either and she has trouble fitting in with the other little girls. When she sees a "falling star", which is actually just 626's ship entering the atmosphere, she makes a wish. She wishes for a friend; a friend who won't run away. Maybe an angel even, "the nicest angel you have". Ironically enough, she doesn't quite end up with an 'angel'.

Nani takes her little sister to the pound to find a pet, someone who Lilo can be friends with. What happens? Lilo picks out 626; as if they didn't have enough troubles. Lilo adopts him and names him "Stitch". Although Stitch is not too pleased with this idea, he immediately decides to stick around with the little Hawaiian, after realizing that his creator is after him. For a long while, Stitch uses Lilo to keep safe from Pleakley and Jumba; who is deliberatley teasing Stitch and instigating. After a while, Stitch catches on to Nani and Lilo's family problems. And somehow, he begins to develop, with Lilo's help, somewhat of a concious; and a heart.

After Stitch causes Lilo and Nani alot of problems he decides that he has caused the sister's "broken family" enough grief, and sets out to find his own "O'hana". In the end, Lilo teaches Stitch that there is more to life then just what he is programmed for: destruction. She teaches him the importance of love, friendship, trust. She gives him a heart, a home, and a family.
