Strawberry Shortcake Information
Strawberry Shortcake and her friends were first introduced in 1980, after the character appeared on an American Greetings card, and had been a hit. There were four original dolls, all had flat hands and were made of vinyl. They each also were scented like their name implied. For example Blueberry Muffin was scented like blueberries, etc. They were Strawberry Shortcake, Huckleberry Pie, Blueberry Muffin, and Apple Dumplin'. Apple Dumplin' was the only doll that came with a pet-Tea Time Turtle. Later that year four more friends and one villian were introduced. They were Lemon Meringue, Raspberry Tart, Orange Blossom, Apricot and her pet Hopsalot, along with the evil villain The Peculiar Purple Pie Man of Porcupine Peak with his pet Captain Cackle.

Then in 1982 Kenner gave each of the dolls pets:
Apple Dumplin' and TeaTime Turtle
Apricot and Hopsalot Bunny
Blueberry Muffin and Cheesecake Mouse
Lemon Meringue and Frappe Frog
Purple Pie Man and Captain Cackle
Orange Blossom and Marmalade Butterfly
Raspberry Tart and Rhubarb Monkey
Strawberry Shortcake and Custard Cat
(missing from pic and my collection: Tea Time Turtle)
Also in 1982, three more friends were added along with another villian. They were: Lime Chiffon, the ballerina, and her pet Parfait Parrot, the very polite Angle Cake and pet Souffle Skunk, Infant Buttercookie and JellyBear, and The evil Sour Grapes with pet Dregs.
In 1983, the international line of dolls were introduced. They were Almond Tea and Marzda Bear (Japan) Cafe Ole and Burrito Donkey, (Mexico) Crepe Suzette and Eclair Poodle (France) and Mint Tulip and Marshmallard Duck (Holland). At the same time the twins Lem N Ada and Sugar Woofer along with Cherry Cuddler and Gooseberry Goose were introduced.

In 1984, 10 Party Pleaser dolls were introduced. At the same time two new dolls came about: the ever southern Peach Blush with her pet Melonie Bell Lamb, and Plum Puddin' with Elderberry Owl. Plum Puddin' was originally a boy in all the strawberry shortcake books, however brought into the line as a girl. These dolls came with special dresses, hats, and shoes, much dressier than their orignial outfits, and the pets were dressed also ready to go to a party.
The ten party pleasers were : Almond Tea, Angel Cake, Apple Dumplin', Cafe Ole, Cherry Cuddler, Mint Tulip, Orange Blossom, Peach Blush, Plum Puddin', and Strawberry Shortcake.
There were four sweet sleeper dolls. Blueberry Muffin, Orange Blossom, Raspberry Tart, and Strawberry Shortcake. These dolls had "sleepy" eyes- ones that opened and closed, they also came with sleeping bags shaped like the fruit that they each represent. Each of their pets were also dressed for nite time.
(in the picture see Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom. Both Raspberry Tart and Bluberry Muffin are missing both from pic and my collection)
The last line of dolls that Kenner came out with were the Berrykin dolls, which were introduced in 1985. There were 6 of these dolls: 5 old characters and one new. They were Banana Twirl, Mint Tulip, Orange Blossom, Peach Blush, Plum Puddin', and Strawberry Shortcake. These dolls are extremly rare and naturally very expensive. Their hair was longer and curlier, instead of the standard green and white striped tights, these dolls sported pink, yellow, and green ones. Instead of coming with a pet they came with a berrykin, which is a little creature like the fruit that the character represents. For example, Banana Twirl's berrykin was a banana.
All versions of the dolls are 5" tall with the exceptions of Sour Grapes and the Pie Man who are 8" tall, and Apple Dumplin', Apricot, Butter Cookie, Cherry Cuddler, and Lem N Ada, which are 3 5/8 " tall.
Characters that you may see in books, that were never made into dolls : T.N.Honey, Rasin Cane
