One to one coaching for players with ratings up to 1300. International Schools Coach, John Alfred has been coaching a number of schools during the last school year. This typically consists of going in to a school after the last class and taking a class for one hour. Class sizes vary from 4 to 60 pupils. More recently, he has trained over 1000 pupils in schools in Western Australia. He organized this years Limerick League which had an entry of over 50 teams and the Tipperary League which had 23 teams. His chess playing career includes having been North Munster champion in 1975, 1984 and 2002 and Connacht champion in 1975. His rating peaked close to 1900 in the mid 1980s. Nowadays he rarely plays competition and is more interested in coaching junior chess. He has part-coached various members of the Irish Junior chess teams. More recently, he has produced four booklets of one-move, two-move and three-move checkmate problems suitable for beginners or improvers. The fourth booklet is an introduction to openings. He works as an electronic design engineer and holds qualifications in engineering and business. See his special course for improvers.
