To Pledge or Not to Pledge? Consider life’s arrows and slings, Then consider what NPR brings: It’s a world full of news And enlightened reviews That helps one consider all things. Get the story |
Alas, Public Radio... Don't let your lack of support be its death knell. |
It's pledge time again at the Savant's local public radio station and it really isn't a question of whether to donate or not. It's only a question of how much. It's hard to find as good a source of unbiased news or as broad a coverage of world news within the U.S. For years, now, public radio has been the Savant's main muse; often sparking the idea for a new limerick as he listens on his long commute to his day job. I don't ask for doantions to keep this site running, but I do encourage you to support your local public radio station. Help keep my muse alive! But soft... What news of other pledges breaks? |
The Case For Can a nation be called pluralistic With a pledge that is monotheistic: Each Hindu and Buddhist, Or pantheist nudist Reduced to a single statistic? (On the other hand, weren’t we all pantheist nudists roaming the African savannas in an earlier age?) The Case Against A dyslexic right-wing demagogue Could have the Supremes in a fog By claiming our Pledge Would lose its fine edge If we leave out the words “under dog.” (On the other hand, weren’t we “one nation underdog” during the Revolutionary War?) Get the story -And a balanced history of the Pledge and this case from the Weekly Standard |
