| 1 - WHAT AFTERMARKET BARRELS CAN I PUT ON THE SL-68II? There are still a few companies making barrels for the SL. At last check, Smart Parts has the AA barrel, J&J has one, Palmer's Pursuit will build SL barrels to your needs (and they do great work!), and LAPCO will be putting out a small run of barrels for us when the mass of A-5 parts orders takes a little break.. Custom shops should be able to turn down an existing barrel to fit the SL as well. Otherwise, any OLD barrels built to fit the Tippmann 68 Special semiauto, the SL-68, or the SL-68II will work. The only catch is that on some old 68 Special barrels, there are large threads halfway down the barrel. These were designed to hold the foregrip (same foregrip that's on the SL) in place. If you get a barrel like this, you'll need to grind or machine off those threads, or your SL will not be able to pump. |
| 2 - MY VELOCITY WON'T GO ABOVE 150 FPS. WHAT HAPPENED? Obviously, the first thing to check is the velocity screw. If it has turned on its own, you should try to adjust it back to the normal "game" position. If the screw is missing, you will need to replace it, or you will not get sufficient velocity. The second thing to look at is the mainspring. Remove your barrel and bolt, and take out the spring behind the bolt. It is the long spring, about 3-4 inches long or so. Hand-stretch the spring a little bit, and re-assemble the marker. This is a temporary fix, but it usually gives you an extra 50+ feet per second. Another possiblility is a little more difficult to fix. The power tube has a black plastic cap on the back of it. Sometimes this cap may come loose from the power tube. If that happens, it will be about impossible to get any velocity, no matter what you do. Power tubes for the SL-68II are lifetime warranty parts from Tippmann. A second option is to find a field that has old SL rentals. They will probably have a bunch of power tubes sitting around as spares. |
| 4 - THE SL IS A GREAT MARKER AND ALL, BUT IT'S REALLY UGLY! HOW CAN I IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE? Hey, give me a break! If you want a pretty pump, buy a Phantom or a Chipley Pump (they're not Snipers, as Chipley makes the bodies himself). The SL is SUPPOSED to be ugly... it's a tool of the trade for cryin' out loud! Seriously, though, there are a very few things that can be done to spice up the look of the SL. Since the body is all cast aluminum, you could mill out the sight rail, giving a "skeletal" look to it. Be careful not to cut into the body too far, of course. With the body being aluminum, you can also have it anodized to your color of choice, although the bodies are VERY porous. Anno jobs probably won't work terribly well on an SL body. Another option for color is to sandblast, prime, and paint the body. You'd probably want to then either bake or clearcoat the paint to protect it. You can also drill out the pump handle, or even cut it down so it is shorter. Adding a sight rail may seem redundant on this marker, but it may help some. On mine, the built-in rail isn't formed the best. I put a dual rail adapter on, purchased from a hunting store. If the desire strikes, I can now use 3/8 dovetail clamps OR Weaver rings. If you REALLY know what you're doing, there are ways to put a vertical adapter on the SL. Not recommended for anyone without a good machine shop. After these things, it's all about imagination. Wood foregrip? Sure, why not. Mag-Light on the pump? Yep, great for scenario play. TM-203 Tippmann grenade launcher? Kooky, but you won't see another one like it around! 5 - IS THE SL-68II ACCURATE? The SL is as accurate as it's paint. With the stock barrel, it's accurate enough, but a good aftermarket barrel (or set, if you can swing one!) will be better. 6 - IS THE SL-68II TOUCHY ABOUT PAINT? Not particularly. Mine has found ONE batch of paint it didn't like, and it's seen everything from football-shaped garbage to tournament-grade superpaint. |

| 3 - CAN THE SL-68II TAKE AFTERMARKET NELSON SPRING KITS? After much research, it has been determined that the SL takes unique springs. A Nelson kit will NOT fit the SL-68II. Again, another gripe about unique valving and assorted other systems... |
