After forming in 1998 and playing less then a dozen shows, Dope managed to get a record deal with Flip Records. "Man, we worked our asses off to get to where we are," Edsel Dope says. "When we first started out, we would go to every concert that came to town, whether it was Rob Zombie, Korn, any band that we thought would attract the type of audience we were after. And we would just hand out hundreds of demo tapes, stickers, flyers, anything we had."
"Then we would go on the internet and find bands with similar musical profiles and influences and send them our stuff," says Eisen. "We also started a huge mailing list, and put everyone we would meet on it and kept them updated as to what the band was doing. By the time we finally played our first show in New York City, there were over 300 people there, it was huge."
"When we play live, it's a lot more raw and aggressive than the sound of out demos," says Edsel. "So the album is kind of a mix of the two. But right now we're looking forward to going out there and playing to as many people as we can. I mean, when my brother Simon and I formed Dope, we were never interested in playing to small crowds. We always had a very clear vision of where we wanted this band to go, and we were willing to do whatever it took to get the music heard by as many people as possible. And you know what? It paid off."
