Draped in darkness
We follow the unknown
Mysterious roads lye ahead
For so long there were endless possibilities
But now there is only one
Hiding in the shadows
We are the necessary evil…
Reaching out through the dark
There is a light waiting
Grasping it with all my faith
Watching my fallen tears
Ripple in the sea of sorrow
As I witness all my fears
Let that light be my tomorrow
Episode 01: Sleepless Intro
"YEA!!!!!!!!!! WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" shouted a young male around the age of 16. His short, messy brown hair bounced with him as he entered his apartment. "I'm home!"
"Sora, don't yell."
"Sorry, Aunt Sarah." He smiled at the older woman, "But I have no homework for the entire weekend, which means I can carry out my master plan." His smile grew even wider as he shut the door and placed his bag next to the doorframe.
The apartment was small, but it was enough for the three of them. From the doorframe was the living room. The walls were white and the space was filled with a couch, which one would almost consider a loveseat upon seeing the size of it, two recliners, one navy-blue which belonged to Sora and the other a dark beige. The couch was against the wall in the middle, the navy-blue chair was on the wall that turned to the left and the beige one was right next to the door and a TV was set on an entertainment until that rested against the tiny wall which would be the first thing you'd notice when you entered.
Right next to the blue recliner was a hallway that led to the one bathroom and three bedrooms. Each room was a fairly decent size, the boy's room was covered in posters and wall scrolls. No one would have guessed that the walls were painted a beautiful cerulean blue, except for the fact that a small portion of the wall that was behind the head of the bed was clear of any anime or video game memorabilia. The bed had a few inches between itself and the wall with the window. On the wall from the left of the entrance was another entertainment center with a TV, stereo, CDs, DVDs, video games, DVD player and video game console sat in their respective spots. Right next to that was a bookshelf that held his manga, graphic novels and role playing books.
On the right wall was a computer desk. His schoolbooks rested on one of the shelves, on another were more graphic novels and video games, another shelf held the speakers and on the top were seven UFO catcher dolls from different series. And right in front of the monitor was a lavender book that seemed to resemble a diary and on top of the cover was a black ring box.
Going back into the living room and heading into the room that was to the left of the TV was the conveniently large kitchen/dining room.
Sora's aunt arched an eyebrow. "What exactly is your 'master plan'?"
"You don't remember? Or didn't I tell you?" his aqua eyes held a lot of confusion, but then it passed as he shrugged. "No matter. Tracey's coming over-"
"Oh, I see."
"Huh? He's sleeping over-"
"Oooo." She taunted.
"What are you" he mimicked her, "ooooing about? He's coming here so we can get started on Rachel's wishes."
"Oh, that. Yes, your mother did mention your 'master plan' to me."
"Speaking of Mom, where is she?"
"She got called into work early. I brought her down about an hour ago."
Sora sighed as he plopped him self onto the sofa and began to take off his shoes. "I'm still amazed that she still wanted to work there seeing that was were she got shot."
"I know, but she loves her job and nothing is going to stand in her way of something that she loves. Not even a small thing like paralysis." The blond woman smiled as her blue eyes gazed at her nephew.
"What? What are you staring at?"
"You."
"I know that. But why?"
"The last time I saw you this excited and happy was when you showed up at the old farm house for your 12th birthday when Jim taught you how to shoot. It's refreshing to see your smile."
"What's the use in frowning? I learned awhile ago that frowning won't solve anything. It just usually makes the people around you sad too. Besides, I'm really psyched."
"I see…" she giggled and headed for the door.
"Where you going?"
"To work. I'll see you later." Sarah straightened her dark purple skirt and jacket, put on her white high-heels then exited the apartment.
"I'm free… for a few hours at least…" he announced to no one.
A few hours later…
"Hello?!"
Sora poked his head around the hall to see his best friend standing in front of the closed door. "Hey Trace. Sorry, I wasn't looking for you but-"
"But you were at the final boss of your game or so you think and got too enthralled in it. Am I right?"
"Just because you're my best friend and a telepath doesn't give you the right to read my thoughts. However, you're right."
"I know I am." He grinned.
"Whatever. Take off your shoes and come into my room."
The black haired young man shrugged and did as told. His violet eyes went wide when he set foot into Sora's bedroom. "Ya know, I am amazed at how you managed the space on your wall. You have got to have at least twice as many pics up now than you did the last time I was here and that was yesterday." He sat on the bed, then set his eyes upon the TV screen that held the video game footage.
"Goddamn! Why won't you die?!"
"Sora, you know if you through a revive item or cast a revival spell on it, it will die."
"Really?" the main character powered up. Deciding that it was a suicide run, he did what Tracey had suggested and that small tidbit of information made him achieve victory.
Tracey's eyes were still on the screen as he was skimming the story, then he saw the name of the main character as the game was saving. "Sora, what did you name the main character?"
"N… nothing." The brunette blushed a little. "Why?"
"Oh, no reason. I just thought I saw my name."
The other boy chuckled. "You must be seeing things." His flush went away, then he faced his companion. "Did you bring the stuff?"
"Yeah, did you ask your mother before I start painting on the wall?"
"Uh-huh. She said that it would look nicer and fit with the rest of the room."
"Okay. I talked with Catherine too."
"And?" he sounded quite eager.
"And she agreed to be our keyboardist. So we can discuss whatever for the group while I'm working on your dragon or we can do it after."
"How about both. I think we may have a lot of ground to cover."
"Alright. By the way, where's Sarah?"
"Work." Sora frowned.
The violet-eyed teen sighed. "Which means we'll have a mission by the end of the night."
"Yeah. No rest for the weary I guess."
"No fun for the teens is more like it. How did your aunt get involved with the government anyway?"
Sora shut his eyes and shrugged. "Don't know. What makes me even more curious is why Kimberly and Jason got involved with a group like Iyada."
"It's none of our business, unless they want to tell us. Just as our reasons are no business of theirs."
"Well you mean my reason. You just got involved because you read my mind and found out about the organization."
"You hold that against me?"
"Not really. Are you going to start painting?"
"I'd feel better about it if we either remove the bed from the room or cover it up so paint doesn't get on it."
"We'll cover it, lets just take off the stuff on the headboard."
"Okay."
The two quickly removed the books and figurines from their places, took off the sheets just incase and covered the bed and the floor around it in plastic. Tracey began his art project as his best friend sat on the floor gazing up at him. "Now you're SURE your mother gave you permission?"
"Yes. Why do you keep asking that?"
"Because if I find out you're lying I won't be happy."
"Just read my mind and see for your self."
"Maybe later. So, what do we have to do for your sister's wishes?"
"Promises." He corrected. "And I have done three if you count that we are starting on the singing part." Sora opened the lavender book, flipped through a few pages and stumbled upon a sketch of a girl with light purple hair, violet spandex and a dark purple coat. "Uh…"
"Hm?" the black haired boy looked down at his friend and saw him blushing and sweating a little. "What's the matter?"
"Nothing…"
"Really?" he concentrated and read the boy's thoughts. An evil smile played on his face. "So your sister came up with an idea for a performance look."
"I wish you would ask before you enter my head."
"If I did, would say yes?"
"No."
"Exactly. What's the big deal? Your 'armor' for Iyada looks like that, not that you can wear it when not on a mission, but still."
"I don't want to dye my hair." He mumbled.
"What was that?" as if he didn't know.
"I don't want my hair to be purple."
"Okay." He set the paintbrush down and jumped off the bed. He stood before the other teen. "We'll just do it a different color."
"I don't want my hair dyed at all."
"Uh-huh." He walked passed him.
"Where are you going?!"
"Out. I'll be back in 20 minutes."
"Tracey!"
The door shut and Sora was left alone.
20 minutes later the young man returned to a nervous Sora. Tracey chuckled upon seeing the boy's face.
"I've got some cool stuff. Come into the kitchen."
"Is it food?"
"Yeah." 'Some of it.' He thought.
Sighing in relief the aqua-eyed male followed his friend into his kitchen and sat at the table. "So what did you get?"
"Chips and salsa." He placed them on the tabletop, "A 24 pack of soda and drum roll please."
Sora tapped his hand against the wooden surface.
"Bleach and hair dye."
"W-what?"
"Relax. I've seen my mother do this a number of times."
"Your mom dyes her hair?"
"Yeah, but don't repeat that." He moved one of the four chairs that were around the table and set it in front of the sink. "Over here."
"I don't like this…" the teen got up and sat in the other seat. "You sure you know what you're doing?"
"Relax, would you. I had my mom mix the bleach for me. That's why I said it would take me 20 minutes." Smiling to himself he sat on Sora as if he was sitting in the chair backwards and moved the other boy's head to the sink. "Just stay very still" he put a towel around the boy's shoulders then put on rubber gloves, "and no harm will come to you."
"Eep."
'You're scared. How cute.'
Sora sat in the chair that was placed in front of his computer desk and stared at his companion in disappointment. His now blue bangs hovered in front of his eyes; he moved them to the side and glared at the other boy. "Why didn't you listen to me when I said I didn't want to dye my hair?"
"Because it was you who said that you wanted to carry out your sister's dream exactly like she would have. And that included hair and wardrobe."
"But I can't wear-"
"I know because of Iyada, but you dyed your hair with a compromise. Instead of purple like Rachel would have done, it's blue."
"My mother's gonna kill me…"
"Chill out. If she gets angry I'll tell her I forced you."
"But you DID force me."
"Yeah, so I'll tell her the truth and get banned from your house and life."
"Don't put it like that…" he whispered.
"I'm sure your mom will be cool with it." Tracey stopped his painting and stepped back to admire his artistic handy work. "So, what do you think?"
The aqua-eyed teen gazed up at the wall. "Awesome…" he yawned.
"You are such a kid sometimes, Sora."
The door to the young man's room opened with a soft creek. Gently the intruder shook Sora and his companion awake. "Sorry boys, but there's a mission."
"Aunt Sarah?"
"Yes, now hurry up and get dressed."
"Hn." Tracey snorted from the floor, "See Sora, I told you. No fun for the teens."
~*~*~*
After much complaint from the blue-haired teen, the three of them plus two others occupied a small apartment that was located on the opposite side of the town. Sora sat on the couch next to and leaning on Tracey and the other two whom had joined them were sitting in chairs on the other side of the room. One was a male around the age of 17; he had red hair that was tied back into a ponytail and dark blue eyes. The other was a female about the same age with short blond hair and green eyes.
The four of them were wearing something that would give them just a bit of protection out on the battlefield. Tracey had his black leather jacket, the redhead known as, Jason had a long purple-blackish trench coat while Sora and Kimberly had on Spandex. Sora wore a cerulean pair of shorts and a half shirt plus a sky blue trench coat. Kimberly sat there waiting for the info in her red armor.
Sarah made sure she had all the attention and placed a tape in the VCR. "This is your target." The screen showed a man in his early 50s and the face caught the attention of all four members.
"That's Kelsey Grant. He was one of the janitors at our school." Announced the blond girl.
"That's correct. He was fired three months ago and since then some of the other students have gone missing. Sources report that he had convinced a number of teens to work for him after school."
"Doing what?" Jason questioned.
"Odds and ends around his house. Unfortunately many of those kids have been murdered for sloppy work. Your mission is to annihilate Kelsey Grant and free the remaining students of their captivities. Go forth into the night…"
~~~
Sora and his teammates made it to their location. The sky was dark and the moon's light cast eerie shadows of the trees that acted as Iyada's hiding place. Those trees also hid a large house, a little too large for someone who was just a janitor.
Tracey and Kim stood in a tree on one side and Sora and Jason stood in one on the other. The redhead glanced at the other boy out of the corner of his eye and tried very hard to silence his oncoming chuckles.
"I know what you're laughing at."
"What… happened to your… hair…"
"Tracey happened to it."
"I see. Sora's got a boyfriend…" he smirked.
The young one blushed. "I-I do not."
"What's the matter, Sora? You don't want me to be your boy toy?" the black haired teen asked telepathically.
"Get out of my head."
"Tracey," Kimberly spoke quietly and seriously. "Do not startle him while we're on a mission."
"Yeah, yeah." 'Kill joy.'
Rustling was heard down below as a shadowed figure threw out a large object that landed with a thud. Jason stealthily jumped onto the ground and approached what had just been thrown. His eyes narrowed as he laid his eyes on the face of a lifeless young woman.
"Hey you!"
A light shone in the teen's direction. "Shit…"
"Way to go Jay." The female of the group muttered, leaping down from her perch to help her teammate. Lighting a ball of flames in her hand she threw it in the man's direction. She gasped when he disappeared, then reappeared behind her, slamming her to the ground.
Three more sets footsteps stomped on the soil and surrounded the two. Sora's eyes went wide. "Tracey, look." He spoke into his mouthpiece. "Those are all the janitors that got fired."
"I see." He replied as he took out his crossbow and prepared a sniping shot.
One of the men held down the fire caster and licked his lips. "You would make a lovely addition to our group…" the man then fell silent as an arrow was embedded into his skull.
Kelsey looked up towards the disturbance. "Over there!"
"Damn it."
Bullets started flying after Tracey as he jumped from tree to tree. Once getting over to the opposite side he was on, he tagged Sora and his best friend then took flight into the air. Hovering just above two of the remaining three, he created a small tornado to lift them up and drop them at a fast rate resulting in them breaking their necks.
Last, but not least was their target. The middle-aged man quivered with fear as Jason walked towards him, lightning surging through his fist. "Give us one good reason I shouldn't kill you."
"I'll let you have all the girls you want."
"Hn. Wrong answer." Reaching out, the blue-eyed boy surged the electricity through the older man's body until it became unmoving.
Kimberly took out her cell phone to notify Sarah. "Mission complete."
~*~*~*
The next night was more peaceful than the previous one. A large group formed in a local bar that belonged to Tracey's grandfather waiting to see the live entertainment. Sora shook as he gazed at the crowd. "I didn't think we'd get this much of a turn out…"
"Don't be nervous." Tracey said calmly as he placed his leather jacket on Sora. "There now you look like your ready."
Catherine blinked as she noticed something glistening around Sora's neck. "What are you wearing?"
"This?" he pointed to the silver chain and ring. "It belonged to my sister. I figured it would be nice if she was on stage with us."
"Well we're about to find out. Lets go guys." The violet-eyed boy commented as he led them out to the stage where his grandfather was standing.
"Everyone please put your hands together for Sleepless."
The audience applauded as the teens took center stage. The aqua-eyed teen took a breath before he spoke. "Thanks for your applause, I know my sister would be happy if she were here with us. You see singing was her dream, but three years ago she died and I wanted to see her dream come true. So what better way to do it than have her big brother carry it out for her. Lets get this show on the road-" he was cut off by a loud beeping, then water started to fall from the ceiling.
Sora laughed as a lot of other people ran outside where it was dry. The boy took the ring in between his fingers and looked at it. "So this is show business, huh Rache?"
The days go by
And there is nothing more
To me than your love
Sunbeams hide behind darkened clouds
Just like you hiding behind the redness in you cheeks
Rain starts to fall like tears
Tears I can't stand to see you cry
Walking through the rain
I see you waiting at the street corner
Soaked to the bone, I remove my jacket
Place it on your shoulders, hoping that there is no pain
Into the night we go
For we have a job that needs to be done
I know it hurts, but I'm here with you
Fighting in the rain
It pours down still like endless tears
I will take all the blows for you
If it means for you that there is no more pain
Walk through the rain
Opening: My Tomorrow
&
Ending: Walk Through the Rain
