                                                       Nation's History 1900-1930
Early Beginnings

In the early 1900s, a sailor by the name of Lina founded an island, located northeast off Japan. He informed his other shipmates and they directed their ship to the island. Lina was sent by the United States to conquer more lands across the Pacific Ocean.

As they landed on the island, they gave it a name 'Linapore'. It simply meant that it was Lina's island.

After a year, the president of the United States was awared of this island. He immediately sent his navy to defend the island from instruders. In 1915, he visited the island and found it suitable to turn  it into a trading centre. A governor was sent by the United States to take charge of the island. Businessmen and traders from the United States, Japan and China were lured to this island by the early 1920s. The island became a hub for trading between the east and the west in 1926.

Towards the late 1920s, Malay fishermen from Southeast Asia were also drawn to this island. Linapore was soon turned into a fishing port.

Battle for Survival

In 1930, Linapore was beginning to prosper from its trade and business. Chinese labourers were recruited by the Americans to the island to construct roads and buildings. Traders in Malcom could easily get to the Governor's office in Jacob after the roads were built.

However, the Great Depression brought world trade down in the 1930s. Linapore's trade was greatly affected by it. The Governor faced a financial crisis in the island over that period of time.

To make things worst, the Japanese tried to invade Linapore for raw materials in 1936. The American navy put up a brave front and battled the Japanese army. However, due to poor coordination and lack of military weapons, the American lost the war to the Japanese in 1938. The Governor left the island instantly after the defeat. The Japanese invaded Linapore and took all the natural resoures they could find. The invasion of Japanese into the island was also known as  the Dark Ages of Linapore. Life was tough and difficult for the inhabitants. At the same time, World War II was going on in the rest of the world.

In the mid-1940s, the Japanese surrendered to the Americans after an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Americans got back their colonies and the Governor returned to Linapore in 1949.

The aftermath of the war brought lots of destruction to buildings and roads across Linapore. Much reconstruction had to be done in the 1950s. The United States sent in aid to the victims of the war and offered money and labourers for the reconstruction efforts. In the late 1950s, the clean up of the war almost completed. The inhabitants of the island were too traumatised by the war that they did not return back to work. Thus, business was at an all-time low in the 1950s.

Reforming the Island

In the 1960s, trade resumed and business recovered slowly. The United States president decided to make the island independant as he wanted to bring his attention towards mainland USA than the other islands offshore. The Governor held the first democratic election for the inhabitants to decide on the first President for Linapore. The president formed his government in the late 1966.

On 12 June 1967, Linapore was officially declared an independant country by the United States. Being a newborn nation, the president and his government had to reform the island to make it a better place to live in. The president made Jacob the capital of the country and Malcom the financial city of Linapore. Citizenships were issued to the inhabitants of the island. The population comprises of Americans, Japanese, Chinese and Malays.

In the 1970s, more houses were built to accomodate the rising population on the island. Industries were constructed for the manufacture of goods or products. Agriculture lands were controlled by the government and given to farmers to produce food for the country.

Throughout the 1980s, life was becoming better as people had their houses to stay in and work to get an income for the family.

In the 1990s, trade was again disrupted severely by the Asian Financial Crisis. The economy recovered very slowly till the millenium. However in the 21st century, the September 11 attacks in New York, affected business in the world including Linapore.

At present, Linapore has become a developed, cosmopolitan city in Asia.
