Aging
Aging is something that happens to everyone who lives long enough. However there are steps we can take to help us to age gracefully. By that I mean  without so many of the ailments that plague the "golden" years. It is never too late to take control of our health.

With the high cost of medicine today & the low incomes of many of our older people, we need to try to maintain the best health we can.  Proper diet, exercise & herbal remedies  can help us preserve our bodies giving us precious Quality time with the key word being
quality.

Proper nuitrition is extremely important. This is the fuel for our bodies & if we  continually put garbage into it, it will fail us sooner than it needs to.

Our diet, especially in the United States, consists of way too much over-processed food. We are always so rushed that it seems like fast food has almost become our primary source. Not Good!!!

We need to eat more raw fruits & vegetables. More whole grains & less sugars & processed food.
Much of our food has the nutrition processed right out of it giving us only empty calories. I suggest that you do some research on natural foods. There are  some good cookbooks  with delicious recipes using natural foods. Check your local bookstore or library.

Many of the antioxidents are useful to older people because as we age our bodies become less able to fight off illness. Herbs can help!

Ginseng- Increases circulation & gives energy. This is the traditional "longivity" herb.
Ginkgo Biloba- ginkgo seems to increase brain function & is one of the herbs being studied for Alzheimers Disease.
Milk Thistle- promotes liver function & is an antioxident
Echinacea- boosts the immune system
Garlic- helpful for many conditions
Hawthorne- a spectacular herb for normalizing heart function
Valerain Root- useful for the insomnia which afflicts many older (and not so old) people.
Red Clover- cleanses the blood

There are many herbs  which could be considered helpful. Anything which improves the general health should be considered.
Growing older is not a disease but the passing years do make us more vulnerable to illness.
There is no "fountain of youth" but neither do we have to do nothing & thus become dependent on an increasing array of prescription drugs. Many times natural remedies will allow our older population stay healthy & productive.

One last thought: Scientists have proved that our bodies are very capable of living to 120 years. This is nearly TWICE the age that many of us consider to be old.
