Hawthorne Hawthorne is a shrub which has white flowers in the summer followed by red berries & the berries are where the medicinal value lies. This is an extremely valuable herb as it has been proven to enhance cardiovascular health. It improves circulation, lowers blood pressure, thus reducing the work required by the heart to pump blood throuhout the body. Used with other herbs like cayenne and garlic( see my herbal combinations pages) it also reduces cholestral. |
How to Use capsules-take 1 to 3 daily extract- 1 dropperful up tp 3 times daily Hawthorne is a true heart healer. By this I mean it doesn't just treat the symptoms, it actually improves your heart function. Some herbalists recommend hawthorne as a preventive herb- taking it to combat diseases BEFORE the symptoms show up. |
As before mentioned, hawthorne is an ornamental shrub. It takes several years for it to grow large enough to produce berries. If you do grow it, harvest the berries after they turn red & dry. These berries are extremely hard, so I would say making extract would be the easiest. If you want capsules, your best bet would be to buy in bulk already ground. Check out some of the herbal links on the home page. |
