Goldenseal plant
              Goldenseal
Goldenseal is sometimes called themillion dollar plant both because of its usefulless & its expense. It is one of the most expense herbs costing up to $100. per pound. One of the oldest herbal remedies, goldenseal has been over harvested in the wild. Either grow it yourself or buy it from a reputable dealer, but don't gather it in the wild.

Goldenseal is best propagated by root cuttings taken in the spring or fall. It is very hard to grow from seed.  Grow in rich soil & shade as it is a woodland plant.. Harvest the plants in the third year in the fall. After drying, the roots can be powdered or left whole.
                Echinacea
Echinacea is easily grown from seed. It's common name is purple coneflower. All parts of the plant are useful, but the roots are the most potent. Harvest in  the fall of the second year of growth. Dig  & dry the roots. A dehydrater makes this easy & only costs about $20.00.  Most discount department stores carry them. Once dried, store the roots in an airtight jar(a canning jar works well) away from direct light.
Echinacea  boosts the immune system, fights bacterial & viral infections. It also shortens the duration & sometimes prevents altogether  colds & flu.

At the first sign of a cold, etc. begin taking every 4 hours until the symptoms are gone. If taking capsules use 2 up to 5 times a day. With extract 2 to 4 droppersful up to 5 times a day. Do not take continuoly as it seems to lose its effectiveness.

Cayenne or Capsicum
                  Uses for Cayenne
         Soothes stomach discomfort
         Relieves symptoms of colds
           Reduces inflammation
          Is a mild stimulant
Will stanch the blood flow from a cut.
Just sprinkle some directly on the wound. This herb is used in many combinations.
You wouldn't expect that an herb so hot could really help with stomach problems but this is the case with cayenne.I have used it a lot in the place of anacids. It contains papain which actually helps heal  beginning ulcers.
Cayenne is a catalyst  which means when used with other herbs it actually helps them to work better.

How to Use
I recommend capsules as this herb will burn your mouth. It only produces a nice warmth in your stomach, however. Take 1 to 3 caps daily or as needed.

                  How to Grow
Easy to grow, you might already grow it in your veggie patch. Care must be taken when handing the peppers as they can cause your hands to burn for quite sometime. You might want to purchase it already ground.
