Black cohosh is a native American woodland plant. Growing up to 5 feet tall, it has beautiful white feathery flowers in mid summer. It is a nice plant to grow just for its looks, however it is the roots which contain the medicinal properties. |

How to Grow Black cohosh will grow from seed but is more easily propagated by root divisions. It can be planted in the spring or fall in either sun or shade in fertile soil. .It needs to be watered regularly but doesn't mind the heat. You can harvest the roots in the spring or fall. It must be chopped before drying as it becomes very hard. It is easier to make into extract than capsules because of this. |

How to Grow This plant will grow almost anywhere. You MUST contain it as it will take over your herb garden & the lawn as well. It propagates from underground runners like mint. However, I have know it to run 6 feet before sending up a shoot. Plant in a sunken barrel or other container in the spring or fall. |

Raspberry Leaves This is the same plant that we eat the berries from. However, the leaves have medicinal value. Women have used this plant for centuries to aid in childbirth. Remember that childbirth was always "natural" ,no help from pain-killing drugs. Women rountinely drank raspberry tea during their last 2 months of pregnancy to tone the uterine muscles for labor & delivery. I can't personally vouch for this usage but I DO know that it relieves menstrual cramping & heavy periods.
