Walkthrough

This section is the Walkthrough for A Link to the Past, the only Zelda game to be released for the SNES. Here you will find all things that must be done in order to complete the game. There are spoilers ahead, so don't say you haven't been warned. Also, I've used the name "Link" as opposed to anything else you may call your file. Notice any typos or mistakes? Let me know and I'll fix 'em.

Zelda: Help me... Please help me... I am a prisoner in the dungeon of the castle. My name is Zelda. The wizard, Agahnim, has done... something to the other missing girls. Now only I remain... Agahnim has seized control of the castle and is now trying to open the seven wise men's seal. ... ... I am in the dungeon of the castle. Please help me...
Link wakes up.
Link's Uncle: Link, I'm going out for a while. I'll be back in the morning. Don't leave the house.
He leaves.
Get out of bed and open the treasure chest. You will find a lamp. Leave the house. Walk up and to the left until you reach a bridge. Cross it and turn right. Follow the path until you reach a dead end. Pick up the bush in the middle of the path and drop down the hole.
Hyrule Castle
Walk left and Link's uncle will talk to you.
Link's Uncle: Unnh... Link, I didn't want you involved in this... I told you not to leave the house... Take my sword and shield and listen. You can focus power in the blade (hold the B Button). ... Then release it using the secret technique handed down by our people... Link, you can do it! Save the Princess... Zelda is your... ... ...
You know have a sword and shield. Go into the next room. Keep going until you're outside. Turn left and go through the main entrance. Go through either of the side doors until you reach the back room. Go downstairs and defeat the soldier to recieve a key. Unlock the door. Keep following the path until you reach an open doorway. When you go through it, both doors will close. Defeat the soldier and they will open. Go through the door on the right. Defeat the soldier to get a key and open the treasure chest to recieve a boomerang. Leave the room and climb the ladder to reach the next door. Go through it and all the way downstairs. Now you have to fight another soldier, but this one's a bit tougher. Attack when you can, and run when the ball and chain is coming at you. Once defeated, you will get the Big Key. Use it to unlock Zelda's cell and move forward.
Zelda: Thank you, Link. I had a feeling you were getting close. Link, listed carefully. The wizard is magically controlling all the soldiers in the castle. I fear the worst for my father... The wizard is an inhuman fiend with strong magical powers! ... ... ... Do you understand?
Yes - All right, let's get out of here before the wizard notices. I know a secret path, but first we have to go to the first floor. Let's go!
Not at all - Listen carefully...
After choosing "Yes", you're on your way. Go all the way back to the entrance. Don't worry about Zelda - she can't get hurt. Once there, she will talk to you.
Zelda: There is a secret passage in the throne room that leads to the Sanctuary. I'm sure the old man there will help us.
Climb one of the ladders and go to the upper room. Keep moving forward until you are in front of the shelf.
Zelda: That ornamental shelf should open. Do you have a light? It's pitch dark inside and you can't see without one. If you're ready, let's go! Help me push it from the left!
Move to the left side of the shelf and push it right to reveal a passage. Go through it. Make your way to the upper right corner of the room and go down the stairs. Follow the hallway to the next set of stairs and down. Take the first right and open the treasure chest to get a key. Unlock the door at the north side of the room.
Zelda: After passing through these sewers, we will be very close to Sanctuary! Let's be careful!
Turn left and go through the door. In the next room, go through the door on the upper side of the room. Defeat one of the rats to find a key. Unlock the door and keep moving. At the end of this room, push the block in the middle up one space, and go up the stairs. Pass through this room into the next.
Zelda: Sanctuary is just beyond that door. Just pull that switch over there.
Move over to the switch on the right.
Zelda: You have to pull the lever to open the door. (Press the A Button and hold Down on the Control Pad.)
Pull the switch and the door will open. Go through it. A shelf will be pushed to the side and you will appear in the Sanctuary.
Sanctuary Guy: Princess Zelda, you are safe! Is this your doing, Link?
(Zelda moves next to the Sanctuary guy.)
Zelda: Yes, it was Link who helped me escape from the dungeon! When I was captive, the wizard said, "Once I have finished with you, the final one, the seal of the wise men will open." ... ... ... Link, you must not let the land of Hyrule fall into the wizard's clutches. If he releases the seal of the wise men, evil power will overwhelm this land. Before that happens... before it's too late... destroy the wizard before he destroys all of Hyrule! You can do it! You can...
Sanctuary Guy: I sense that a mighty evil force guides the wizard's actions and augments his magical power. The only weapon potent enough to defeat the wizard is the legendary Master Sword. It is said that the village elder is a descendant of one of the seven wise men. Maybe he can tell you move... I will mark his house on your map. But watch your every move! I am certain that the castle soldiers will be looking for you now! ... ... ... I will hide Princess Zelda here. Do not worry! Seek the elder! Do you understand?
Yes
Not at all - I sense that...
Leave the Sanctuary and keep moving east along the path. When you can't go east anymore (after crossing a bridge), go south. The path will reappear. Follow it, and go north where it ends. Take the first right turn and walk up the ladder. Go up the stairs and go north until you see a big pit with a building in it. Turn right, then south, and jump down where the wall is broken. Now just keep going up the stairs until you reach the palace.
Eastern Palace
Pick up the jar in the middle and step on the switch. The door will open. In the next room, step on the stone that is a bit higher than all the rest and both doors will open. Keep moving north in the next room, while dodging cannonballs. Climb the stairs and go to the next room. Turn left, pick up one of the pots, and step on the switch to open the door. Go into the next room and keep going left to the next one. Defeat all the enemies in this room and the doors will open. Go through the upper door. Go down the stairs and through the door on the right. Keep moving right until you are one room past the one with the Big Treasure Chest. Now turn south and go up the stairs into the next room. Turn right and step on the switch to open the door. Go to the next room. Pick up the upper jar along the right wall to get a key. Leave the room and move to the opposite side of the next room to find a locked door. Unlock it. Keep moving left along the path and enter the next room. Defeat all the enemies and the jar in the middle of the room will be freed. Pick it up and step on the switch. A treasure chest will appear. Open it to get the Big Key. Unlock the door to the north and go down the stairs. Push the block on the right forward, and at the end of the hallway turn right. Open the Big Treasure Chest to find a bow. Go up the stairs and unlock the door to the north. Defeat all the enemies in the room and pick up the key. Unlock the door at the upper left side of the room and go upstairs. Pick up the bottom left pot and step on the switch to open the door. In the next room, step on the bottom switch to open the doors. Continue moving west. While dodging cannonballs, step on the upper left switch and move on to next room. Defeat all the enemies to open the door, then go through it. At this point I should point out that the only way to defeat the Ghoma Knights (the monsters that open their eyes and attack when you get too close) is to hit them with arrows. Do the same thing in the next room. When the doors open, go north.
Boss Fight: Armos Knights
They will come to life and start jumping around the room in a circular pattern. Hit them with your sword if you want to, but the easiest (and safest) way to defeat them is by using arrows or bombs. After a while, they will all line up against the back wall. They will then charge at you. It is best to target one of them with arrows at this point, and defeat it before it hits you. They will form back into a circle and continue this pattern until just one is left. The remaining knight will turn red, jump up in the air, and attempt to crush you. Watch where the shadow is, and try to get just outside of where it lands and hit it before it jumps again. You can hit it with arrows while it's in the air. Get the Heart Container that appears once you've defeated it, and a Pendant will drop. Pick it up.
You will appear at the entrance. Go back to the building in the pit, and enter it. Talk to the man standing there.
Sahasrahla: You are correct, young man! I am Sahasrahla, the village elder and a descendent of the seven wise men. ... ... ... What? Link, I'm surprised a young man like you is looking for the sword of evil's bane. Not just anyone can use that sword. According to the tales handed down by the Hylia, only the Hero who has destroyed three great evils and won the three Pendants can wield the sword... ... ... ... I see you have acquired the Pendant of Courage. I will tell you about the legend behind it. Three or four generations ago, an order of knights protected the royalty of Hylia. These Knights of Hyrule were also the guardians of the Pendant of Courage. Unfortunately, most of them were destroyed in a great was against evil that took place when the seven wise men created their seal. Among the descendants of the Knights of Hyrule a hero must appear. ...I see. Link, I believe you. You should get the remaining Pendants. And carry this with you. This is a treasure passed down by the families of the wise men. I want you to have it.
(You will get the Pegasus Shoes.)
Sahasrahla: A helpful item is hidden in the cave on the east side of Laky Hylia. Get it!
Leave this area and cross the bridge to the south. Follow the path west and eventually you will end up in Kakariko Village. Enter the house with a picture of an open book above the door. Charge into the left bookshelf and pick up the Book of Mudora. Leave the town the same way you came in and follow the path until you are in front of Link's house. Turn south, then keep moving southwest until you reach the entrance to the Desert of Mystery. Go to the northwest part of the desert and you will see three statues with a stone in the middle. Stand in front of the stone and use the Book of Mudora. A message will appear on the screen that says, "To open the way to go forward, Make your wish here And it will be granted." Link will turn around, make a wish, and the statues will move so that you can continue forward (but not back). Go up the stairs and enter the palace.
Desert Palace
Move forward and right and pick up one of the pots to keep moving. Go all the way to the left side of the palace until you see two open doors. Go through the top one. In the next room, run into the far left torch and pick up the key. Leave the room. Run all the way to the right side of the palace, then down until you come across a locked door. Go through it and defeat all the enemies. Go through the north door. Run all the way to the other end of this room to find a treasure chest. Open it and you will get the Big Key. Run all the way back to the area on the left side of the palace with the two open doors. This time, go through the left one. In the next room, lift the northwest most pot to find a switch. Step on it, and go north. Open the Big Treasure Chest to find the Power Glove. Leave this room, then the next, and go south. Go through the next open door, and then the south exit. You will appear outside in the desert again. Move right and pick up one of the stones in front of the opening, then go inside. Push the middle block on the right side of the room to open the door. In the next room, pick up the bottom left pot to find a key. While avoiding the flying tiles, unlock the door and go upstairs. Walk down the hall to the next room, and defeat all the enemies to open the doors. Go right, and then to the north end of the next room. Be especially cautious of the Beamos Statues. Lift the pot second from the right to get a key. Go to the next room. Pick up the top right pot to find another key. In the next room, light all the torches to make the wall expand, revealing another door. Open it.
Boss Fight: Lanmolas
Watch your step, because these worm-like creatures come out of the ground beneath you and shoot out rocks. Aim for their heads to defeat them. Bombs can be especially effective, if timed right. When you've defeated one of the creatures, it will explode section by section until nothing is left. When just one is left, be careful, because it will now shoot out eight rocks instead of four. When you've defeated it, pick up the Heart Container, and another Pendant will appear. Pick it up.
Now that you're back outside, head to Kakariko Village. Continue northward until you reach the Lost Woods. Don't go in - turn right instead. Go up a few more screens, and you will be beside Death Mountain. Pick up the big stone blocking the entrance to the cave and go in. Jump down and take the right path. Go down when you reach the wall, then up and right at the next one. You should see a lost old man standing there. He will talk to you.
Lost Old Man: I don't know who you are, but if you are going to go up the mountain, will you take me with you? I lost my lamp, so...
Go through the passage, and continue forward for a bit.
Lost Old Man: Uhhh... Watch your step. There are holes in the ground. Can you turn right here? Young man, are you also going to the mountain to look for the Golden Power? Just ahead is a mountain full of monsters. Many people have vanished in this mountain while looking for the Golden Power. I don't want to steer you wrong, so please don't get involved in such a mad quest.
Go around the hole, and keep moving straight until you reach a wall. The lost old man will talk to you.
Lost Old Man: Uhh... Turn right here... ... You know, I have a granddaughter who is your age... The King took her to the castle and she never returned. Kidnapping those maidens must be part of the wizard's plot! I'm sure he is trying to somehow use the power of the descendents of the wise men...
Go south to exit the cavern. When you are near the next cavern, the lost old man will talk to you again.
Lost Old Man: The missing maidens are still alive somewhere. I believe that a Hero will rescue them... I wait for that day... Uhh... These are dangerous times... I talked too much. Anyway... Thank you for your kindness to an old man like me. Uhh... I wanted to give you this. If you wander into a magical transporter, gaze into this mirror.
You will get the Magic Mirror. While avoiding falling rocks, keep moving right, then up the ladder. Go north as far as you can, then left until you reach the next ladder. Go up the ladder, then right. Walk into the magical transporter to be transported into the Dark World. You will appear as a rabbit. Go left to where the bully is kicking around the ball. Walk onto the right dark patch of ground, and use the mirror. Jump off the north end of the cliff and go right to enter the tower.
Tower of Hera
Hit the crystal ball switch. Turn left and go down the stairs. Hit the crystal ball switch and get the key. Hit it again before you leave. Hit the crystal ball switch upstairs and go north past the orange blocks. Move to the northwest corner of the room and unlock the door. In the next room, wait for all the floor tiles to fly up for door to open. Hit the crystal ball switch and move to the next room. Hit the crystal ball switch and go south into the next room. Light all the unlit torches with the lamp, and a treasure chest will appear. Open it to find the Big Key. Go north, out of the room, hit the crystal ball switch, and move left into the next room. Hit the crystal ball switch and go back upstairs. Once there, go up the staircase on the right side of the room. Defeat all the enemies to make the door open, and go through it. Step on the star tile and go through the door. In this room, keep moving right until you've reached the next staircase, then go upstairs. Make your way to the left side of the room, and go upstairs. While avoiding the spinning balls of fire, step on the star tile. Move right until you are in the middle of the room. Look at the statue on the north wall. Stand in front of it, and go south, falling into the pit. Open the Big Treasure Chest and you will find the Moon Pearl. Step on the star tile, and move to the left side of the room. Go back upstairs and move to the right side of the room. Go up the next set of stairs.
Boss Fight: Moldorm
Move to the south part of the room, and jump down to the area where Moldorm is. While doing your best not to fall down the pit, hit its tail. If you touch any other part of Moldorm's body, you will bounce off, making it easier for you to fall. If you do fall, you'll have to start the fight all over again. When you've almost beaten it, Moldorm will start moving really fast. Now it's just a few hits away from being beaten. When you have defeated Moldorm, it will blow up. Pick up the Heart Container, and then the Pendant that comes after.
Back on Death Mountain, move left left to where the ladder that you used to reach the summit is. Go into the cave at the base of it. Keep moving left to get to the next area of the cave. Now just keep moving down to exit. Jump off this part of the mountain, and go north. Keep to the left side of the screen and you will see a small pathway in the trees. Follow it to reach the Lost Woods. It's a bit hard to see, but go down through the log at the south part of the screen. Do not go back up through the log next to it. Instead, move left through the tiny opening in the trees, and north through the next log. Turn left and cut down the bushes to reach the next log. Go through it, then east, and north through the eastmost log. Keep moving north and some forest animals will run passed you. Go all the way north, then to the other side of the pedestal. Pull out the Master Sword. The three pendants will fly away, and Sahasrahla will contact you telepathically.
Sahasrahla: Link, it is extraordinary that you won the Master Sword that makes evil retreat... With this shining sword, I believe you can defeat the wizard's evil powers. The destiny of this land is in your hands. Please, Link...
It will now become easier to see the Lost Woods. Leave this area, and you will get another message.
Sanctuary Guy: Link! Help! The soldiers are coming to Sanctuary! AIEEEEEEE! ... ... ...
It is now time to return to the castle.
Hyrule Castle
As before, go through either side door, but this time get on the higher part of the room. Once there, go through the exit at the south side of whichever room you're in. You are now on the roof. Move to the middle part of the castle and hit the electricity beam blocking the door. Go inside. Go straight through this room to the next one. Both doors will close. To open them, defeat both the enemies. Go right and defeat all the enemies in this room. A treasure chest will appear. Open it to find a key. Use it to unlock the door to the north and go upstairs. Follow the red carpet to the left. In the next room, the door will close down behind you. Go down, left, up, left, down, left, and up to reach a treasure chest. Inside is a key. From here, go down, right, up, right, down, right, down, left, down, right at the second turn, down, and right to reach a locked door. In the next room, follow the red carpet upstairs. Keep following it to the left. In the next room, the door will close behind you. Follow the path up as far as you can, then go to the next room on the right. Defeat all the enemies to get a key. Unlock the door and go upstairs. Defeat all the enemies in the next room to open the door. Go through it, and defeat all the enemies in the next room. Now go south. Defeat the soldiers to get a key. Use it to unlcok the door on the right, and go into the next room. Continue moving upstairs. Push the statue on the left out, and continue on. In the next room, move carefully along the path, and then upstairs. Run right through the next room. In the room after that, the door will slam shut behind you.
Agahnim: Ahah... Link! I have been waiting for you! Heh heh heh... I was hoping I could make Zelda vanish in front of your eyes. Behold! The last moment of Princess Zelda!
(He uses magic to float her up, then shoots magic out of his hands at her to make her disappear.)
Agahnim: Ho ho ho... With this, the seal of the seven wise men is at last broken. It is now only a matter of time before evil power covers the land... After all, the legendary Hero cannot defeat us, the tribe of evil, when we are armed with the Power of Gold. Ho ho ho... Now, I must go!
He vanishes into the curtain behind him. Run up to that curtain and slash it. Go through the passage.
Agahnim: Oh, so?... You mean to say you would like to be totally destroyed? Well, I can make your wish come true!
Boss Fight: Agahnim
Agahnim will begin turning into a black ball and moving to different parts of the room. When he reappears, he will shoot a fireball at you. Use the Master Sword to deflect it back at him. Sometimes he will shoot lightning at you, in which case you'd better hope you have really fast reflexes, or are really lucky. He usually does this when he's at the north wall in the room. Other times, he may shoot an iceball at you that breaks up and spreads out when it hits something. Do your best to avoid it, and never hit it with your sword. After enough hits, he'll give up.
Agahnim: Grrrrugh! Well met! Like the true Hero that you are... But I am not ready to admit defeat yet. I will draw you into the Dark World!
He will start spinning really fast, and Link will appear on top of a pyramid in a seemingly different world.
Sahasrahla: Link, it is I, Sahasrahla. I am communicating to you across the void through telepathy... The place where you now stand was once the Golden Land, but evil power turned it into the Dark World. The wizard has broken the wise men's seal and opened a gate to link the worlds at Hyrule Castle. In order to save this half of the world, the Light World, you must win back the Golden Power. You must also rescue the seven maidens who Agahnim sent to the Dark World. As members of the blood-line of the seven wise men, they have power that will surely help you. The maidens are locked in hidden dungeons full of evil creatures and dungeon traps. The Palace of Darkness should be your first goal in this world! Link, I can rely on only you. Please make this old man's wishes come true. I beg you!
Go to the bottom of the pyramid, and to the area where the Eastern Palace and Sahasrahla's house were in the Light World. Before you go there, however, make sure you have 110 Rupees. When you're there, keep moving right until you see a bunch of trees with an arrow above them. Follow that and the next arrow, and keep moving left until you hit a wall. Go north and turn right at the first opening. There should be a huge area covered by bushes, and another opening about two spaces away. Enter that area, and keep pressing Down and Right until you're almost at the exit. Press right and up when you're there. You'll notice that a monkey is following you.
Kiki: I'm Kiki the monkey ki ki! I love Rupees more than anything. Can you spare me 10 Rupees?
Give him 10 Rupees - Ki ki ki ki! Good choice! I will accompany you for a while. Kik kiki!
Never give him anything - Ki ki! Harumph! I have no reason to talk to you, then. Bye bye! Kik ki ki!
After choosing "Give him 10 Rupees", keep moving right. Turn north the first time you can, and then continue moving right. Move to the entrance to the palace. You'll notice it's blocked off.
Kiki: Ki ki ki! If you give me 100 Rupees, I will open the entrance for you. Ki ki ki!
Ask him to open it - Ki ki! Good choice! Then I get 100 of your Rupees. Kik kiki!
Try to open it yourself - Ki ki ki! Hmph! Do it yourself, then! Kik ki ki!
After choosing "Ask him to open it", he will jump onto the switch on the left side of the roof and open the door. Go inside.
Palace of Darkness
Turn left and step on the switch to open the door. Go through it, then downstairs. Move to the bottom left corner of the room, pick up the jar, and step on the switch. A treasure chest will appear. Open it, and you will find a key. Go back upstairs and pick up the top left jar. Step on the switch and leave the room. Move to the middle room and unlock the door. In the next room, take the left path. Place a bomb over the cracks in the floor and drop down into the opening after it explodes. Jump down into the lower part of the room. Pick up the jar at the end of the row of blocks and step on the switch. Get the key inside the treasure chest that appears and move into the teleporter. Go up the stairs, and back through the middle door. Take the left path and fall down again, but this time go up and unlock the locked door. Open the treasure chest to find the Big Key. Drop down the pit on the right, step on teh teleporter, then back upstairs and into the middle room. This time take the right path. You'll have to push the right block off the edge to continue. In the next room, open the treasure chest to find a key. Press forward along the arrow to jump across the pit. Go forward and left to reach a locked door. Go through it and start running to make it to the other side before the floor collapses. Turn right and go down either staircase. Them move to the bottom right corner of the room to find a treasure chest containing a key. After you've gotten it, go upstairs. Go all the way left until you are through the locked door. From the door, move up, left, down, left, up, left, down, left, down, right, down, left, down as far as you can go, left, down, right, up, right, down, left, down, and right to reach a treasure chest. Open it to get the key inside. From here, move left, up, right as far as you can go, up, right, up, and then place a bomb in front of the crack in the wall. Go through the opening to find a Big Treasure Chest with a Magic Hammer inside. Exit the room through the northmost door and go right into the next room. Unlock the door to the south and go through it. To get across this room (safely), move along the outer left wall and push the statue in. Go through the door. Jump onto the central platform and push the bottom block on the left towards the left wall. Exit the room and get onto the right pathway. Jump off and step into the teleporter. Instead of going upstairs, step into the next teleporter. Use a bomb on the southern wall and go through the opening. Go down the hallway, and bomb the right side of the cracked wall. Go through the opening. In this room, you will have to defeat all the enemies. The trick is that they move in the direction opposite you, and the red one can only be destroyed by arrows. When you've defeated them all, the door will open. Run through the next room and go upstairs. Bomb the left wall and go through the opening to reach a treasure chest with a key inside. Once you have it, go back and use the hammer on any of the blocks with faces on them to get passed them. Jump down and pick up all the jars on the far right of the room to find a switch. Push a statue onto it to keep the door open. Defeat all the enemies in the next room and coninue on. When you've gone as far as you can go, shoot the statue in the eye with an arrow. The wall will expand, revealing a hidden staircase. Go down the stairs and get on the left side of the orange blocks. Hit the crystal switch with an arrow or bomb from here, and you will be able to cross the blue blocks. Pass through the next room. Defeat all the enemies in the room after that by flipping them over with the hammer, then hitting them. When they are all gone, the doors will open. Go right and push the block that would be northeast on a compass to gain access to the teleporter. Step on it, and move north. Unlock the door.
Boss Fight: Helmasaur King
While avoiding the Helmasaur King and it's tail, chip the face armor away with the hammer. When it's all gone, the creature will begin moving faster. From this point on, just keep hitting the green spot on it's head until it explodes. Pick up the Heart Container and then the Crystal that falls from above. Link will hold the Crystal above his head and it will begin floating. A girl will appear in the middle of it.
Maiden: Link, because of you, I can escape from the clutches of the evil monsters. Thank you! ... This world used to be the Golden Land where the Triforce was hidden. But because Ganon, the boss of theives, wished it the world was transformed... I'm sure he's intending to conquer even the Light World after building his power here. He is trying to open a larger gate between worlds near the castle using our powers. But the gate is not open completely yet... If we seven maidens come together, we can break the barrier around Ganon's hiding place. I will tell you where the other girls are held. I believe you will destroy Ganon. I will return to my original form at that time. ... ... ... ... ... Do you understand?
Yes - May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce.
Not at all - Link, because of you...
Now collect 500 Rupees. Once you've done this, go as far north as possible. You'll eventually reach some trees at which point you'll have to follow them. Stay in front of the hut, go around the fence, and keep going. Shortly afterwards, you'll reach some rock piles which can only be destroyed by using the Dash Attack. When you've reached the edge of the land, use the mirror and continue moving north by staying in the shallow water. When the path splits in two, take the top path. The next time the path splits it will split into three, at which point you'll take the low path. When you reach the end of the path, the screen will shake and a Zora will appear.
Zora: Wah ha ha! What do you want, little man? Do you have something to ask me?
I want the flippers - Wah ha ha! But I don't just give flippers away for free. I sell them for 500 Rupees a pair.
I just dropped by - Great! Whenever you want to see my fishy face, you are welcome here. ... Wah ha ha! Good-bye...!
(After selecting "I want the flippers".)
Pay 500 Rupees - Wah ha ha! One pair of flippers coming up. I will give you a free bonus with your purchase. I will let you use the magic water ways of the sea folk which link lakes and rivers. When you see a whirlpool, dive into it. You never know where you'll surface. Wah ha ha!
Quit after all - Wade back this way when you have more Rupees... Wah ha ha! I'll see you again!
Once you have the flippers, exit this area and go to the house that was Link's in the Light World. From here, go down two full screens, then left. Use the mirror to enter the Light World, then enter the palace. Move the blocks so that you can reach the door. In the next room, pull the right lever. The wall will open and the area will become flooded. Now leave and go to the Dark World. Enter the palace again.
Swamp Palace
Jump into the water, go left, and climb up the broken ladder. Defeat all the enemies and a treasure chest will appear. Open it to get a key. Unlock the door. Pick up the bottom jar to find a key. Unlock the door and continue on. Walk down the ladder, go through the door, and pick pu the jar to find a key. Go back and climb up the other ladder. Go into the next room. Use the hammer to reach the lever and move it. Water will flood the area. Leave this room and climb up the broken ladder. Enter the next room. Move to the bottom left corner, climb the ladder, and go through the doorway. Climb down the ladder, move north, and pick up a jar to find a key. Go back to the big room and move to the northwest corner. Climb the ladder and unlock the door. Hit the crystal switch, then move the lever to flood the area. Hit the crystal switch again, then move to the room directly south. Use the water to reach the left ladder. Enter the next room. Once down the ladder, push the bottom block forward and the middle block up. Go up the ladder, then upstairs. Push the block forward. Move to the right side of the room and push the block in front of the pit up or down, then fall into the pit. Move left and open the treasure chest to find the Big Key. Go all the way back to the big room, climb up the central platform, and open the Big Treasure Chest. You will find a hookshot. Use it to hit the jar on the platform directly to the right. Pick up the jar on the right to find a key. Climb up onto the central platform again, then move behind the Big Treasure Chest and use the hookshot to reach the next platform. Unlock the door, and continue on. Go to the left side of the room and pick up the top jar. Move the statue on top of it to keep the doors open. Go through the left door on the right side of the room, then down the stairs. Push the lever to lower the water level. Go down the ladder and into the next room. Move north. Walk into the waterfall second from the right. Climb up the ladder, then move upstairs. Pass through the next room. In the room after that, jump into the water and climb onto the very right ledge. Pick up the jar to find a key. Jump into the water, then move to the left side of the room. Unlock the door, pass through the next room, and enter the final room.
Boss Fight: Arrghus
First use the hookshot to remove the tiny puffballs surrounding Arrghus one by one. Defeat them all while they are away from the central body. When they've all been defeated, Arrghus will jump up, land, and start dashing around randomly and quickly. Get away from the shadow when the jallyfish is in the air, then keep hitting it when it gets close. Repeat this pattern to win. Pick up the Heart Container, and then the Crystal. Link will hold the Crystal above his head and it will begin floating. A girl will appear in the middle of it.
Maiden: Link, because of you I can escape from the clutches of the evil monsters. Thank you! ...The Triforce will grant the wish of whoever touches it, as long as that person lives... That is why it was hidden in the Golden Land. Only a select few knew of its location, but at some point that knowledge was lost... The person who rediscovered the Golden Land was Ganondorf the evil theif. Luckily, he couldn't figure out how to return to the Light World... ...Well, remember that you have magical powers, which only The Hero can make the most of! There are some other magical warping points like the one you saw on Death Mountain. By using them you can go between the two worlds and find the evils hidden in the Dark World. You are the only one who can destroy Ganondorf, the their-no Ganon, the evil King Of Darkness! Do you understand?
Yes - May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce.
Not at all - Link, because of you...
Go to the Light World and head to Kakariko Village. Once there, go as far north as you can without leaving. Then move as far left as you possibly can, and enter the Lost Woods. Immediately turn right. It will seem like you've come to a dead end, but you can exit by walking in between the two trees at the bottom of the screen. Move south. Use the hammer to pound in the pegs, then lift the rock and step into the magical transporter. You are now in the Dark World. Go back into the Lost Woods the way you came out. Turn right, then, while avoiding the pits, go north until you come to a bone passage. Go through it, then through the one right next to it, and walk into the statue's mouth.
Skull Woods Palace
Pick up the jar in front of the door to find a switch. Move the statue on the right and push it up against the block. Go behind it, and pull it back so that it holds the switch down and the door open. In the next room, open the treasure chest to find the Big Key. Go back a room, and exit the palace. Go back through the two bone tunnels, and move to the flower bed. Chop down the middle plant to find a secret opening. Drop down inside. Place a bomb in front of the crack in the left wall to blow a hole in it. Move south and step on the star tile, then go through the opening. Pull the switch to remove the wall to the south. Move down and open the Big Treasure Chest to find the fire rod. Go back a room, then go down. Turn left through the open door, then exit this part of the palace. Go through the two bone tunnels once more, and into the statue's mouth. This time, turn and keep going left, then move south to exit. Go through the left bone tunnel, and use the fire rod on the front part of the statue (the long narrow part that extends out). It will burn up, revealing another entrance. Go into it. Move down the ladder. Once under the bridge, go north, then exit to the right. Go around the structure in the middle, and back under the bridge. Once again, move north and exit to the right. This time, get out on the left, then move to the next room. Go down, then through the door. Open the treasure chest to find a key. Go all the way back around to the entrance, go up the ladder, and across the path to the locked door across the room. Unlock it and move on. Step on the first set of star tiles, move forward, and then the next. Turn left and step on the star tile in the southwest corner of the room. Move around the pits, then step on the next set of star tiles. Step on the star tile in the top right corner of the room, then go through the door. Light all the torches in this room to open the door at the top left part of the room, then go through it. In this room, chop down the central vines growing on the northern wall to find a secret passage. Go through it. Defeat all the enemies in this room to recieve a key, then go to the next room. Fall through the hole.
Boss Fight: Mothula

This one's tough. Not only does the floor move, but Mothula can also shoot three-directional shots at you, and numerous spikes are moving around the room at once, and at different speeds. The fire rod can be useful here, if used properly (meaning if you're accurate), but after your magic's gone, it's just you and your sword. Keep hacking away until you've defeated the flying nightmare. Pick up the Heart Container, then the Crystal. Link will hold the Crystal above his head and it will begin floating. A girl will appear in the middle of it.
Maiden: Link, because of you, I can escape from the clutches of the evil monsters. Thank you! ...Do you know the prophecy of the Great Cataclysm? This is the way I heard it... If a person who has an evil heart gets the Triforce, a Hero is destined to appear... ...and he alone must face the person who began the Great Cataclysm. If the evil one destroys the Hero, nothing can be done to save the world from his wicked reign. Only a person of the Knights Of Hyrule, who protected the royalty of Hylia, can become the Hero... You are of their blood-line, aren't you? Then you must rescue Zelda without fail. Do you understand?
Yes - May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce.
Not at all - Link, because of you...
While staying in the Dark World, leave the Lost Woods and head for where the magical transporter was. Turn left and cut through the flowers, then head for Kakariko Village. Look for a giant statue of a gargoyle-like figure holding a trident. Grab the trident and pull it back. Enter the opening.
Blind's Dungeon

Jump down to the lower part of the room and go north to the next room. While staying on the lower level, enter the next room on the right. Immediately go south to the next room. Keep going south until you reach a wall. Turn left and go to the next room. Open the treasure chest to find the Big Key. Go back two rooms and get on the top level. Move to the northeast corner of the room and unlock the door. In the next room, pick up the jar in the far right corner to get a key. Unlock the door at the southern end of the room, and go through it. Keep going left until you reach a wall. You should now be in a room with a moving floor and spikes all over the place. Go through the door at the northern end of the room. Pick up the jar next to the crystal switch to get a key. Hit the crystal switch and go upstairs. Pick up the bottom right jar to find a switch. Step on it to open the door. Run down the hallway into the next room. Throw a bomb onto the cracked floor where the light is shining, so that a hole in the floor allows the light to reach the floor beneath this one. Go back to the room with the moving floor. With the blue block down, enter the room on the right. Keep going right until you reach another room with a moving floor. At this point, go downstairs. Pick up the giant block and go down. In the next room, go through the right door. Make your way to the girl at the back cell.
Girl: Ohh, thank you very much! You saved my life! Please take me outside.
Open the treasure chest to get a key. Leave this room and go left until you reach a locked door. Open it and move on. Use the hammer to reach the Big Treasure Chest. Pick up the Titan's Mitt inside and leave. Go back upstairs. Pick up the jar in the top right corner and step on the switch. Go through the now opened door, and then north to the next room. Walk forward to make the girl step into the light.
Girl: Gyaaah! Too bright!
The girl will explode, and a floating creature will appear.
Boss Fight: Blind the Thief
To hurt Blind, you have to hit it's head. When it is at the top of the room, you have to get behind it to hurt it. While avoiding the laser beam that it shoots and the fireballs that appear when you hit it's head, hack away until it falls to the ground and it's head comes off and starts flying around the room shooting fireballs around randomly. When there are two heads flying around the room, it's just a couple more hits 'till victory. Get the Heart Container that appears after Blind is defeated, and then the Crystal. Link will hold the Crystal above his head and it will begin floating. A girl will appear in the middle of it.
Maiden: Link, because of you, I can escape from the clutches of the evil monsters. Thank you! As the wise men sealed the way to the Dark World, the Knights Of Hyrule defended them from the attacks of evil monsters. I heard that the Knights Of Hyrule were nearly wiped out in that battle... You are prehaps the last one to carry on the blood-line of the Knights... It is ironic that the last one in the line has the potential to become the Hero of legend. Surely you can destroy Ganon! Do you understand?
Yes - May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce.
Not at all - Link, because of you...
