The Characters

This section of my page, called The Characters, is for first-time Zelda players who want to get to know the characters better. You will find out a bit about the main characters in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which without there could be no game. If you have any questions about any of the characters, drop me a line!

Link
The young hero of all the Zelda
games, Link seems to constantly
find himself in a position to rescue
Princess Zelda. In Ocarina of Time,
Link's fifth adventure and the prequel
to all the rest, he finds out that the fate of
the world lies in his hands after a curse
falls on the Deku Tree, the guardian
spirit of the Kokiri Forest (Link's
home). Luckily, Link is a skilled
swordsman, even at the age of 10. As the game progresses, Link
must travel back and forth through time in order to save the world, so we see both
the 10 and 17-year-old versions of him. Through many parts of the game, Link will
aquire many weapons that he must use to get past all the dungeons and temples
that he has to go through. With his courage and knowledge, he must find a way to
save Hyrule from the hands of the power-hungry Ganondorf before it is too
late.

Princess Zelda
Princess Zelda is the Princess of Hyrule. She first meets young Link in the
castle courtyard as she looks through a window. After Link tells her that he
has the Kokiri Emerald, a green and shining stone with some mysterious
power, she believes that he has been sent to save Hyrule because of a
prophetic dream she had. She believes that Ganondorf, a loyal servant of the
King, is plotting to attack the castle in search of the Ocarina of Time, the
Royal Family's treasure, which has the power to open the way to the Triforce.
She gives Link a letter with which he can gain access to Death Mountain and
acquire the other two Spiritual Stones. He becomes Zelda's only hope, but will
he be quick enough in his mission to save Hyrule?

Ganondorf
Ganondorf is a loyal servant to the King of Hyrule... or is he?
Princess Zelda has been having prophetic dreams which suggest that
Ganondorf will try to take over Hyrule, and even the world, but her
father doesn't believe her. The reason she's so sure Ganondorf is
up to no good is that her dreams are never wrong. As it turns out,
this time is no exception. In the near future, Ganondorf plans to
attack Hyrule castle in the hopes of finding the Ocarina of Time so that
he can obtain the Triforce and get any one wish granted.

Navi
Navi is a fairy who was asked by the Deku Tree, the guardian spirit
of the Kokiri Forest where Link is from, to guide Link on his quest. Throughout
the game, she follows him around and periodically helps him out when he's stuck.
Link is actually quite lucky to have her around, as many dungeons that he has
to explore are quite dark, and Navi acts as a source of light. Normally, Navi is
blue, but sometimes she changes color to let Link know of something. If she
turns green, it means that there is either a secret, or something of
importance nearby - when green, she will always fly over to the spot where
the secret or item of importance is located. Whenever she turns yellow,
she'll fly over to a person or enemy. This just means that you're close
enough to that person or enemy to Z-Target them.

Sheik
Sheik is a mysterious young Sheikah who appears once Link has become
an adult. He teaches Link new songs which can be used to warp to six
locations around Hyrule. Sheik speaks to Link in a poetic style, and
disappears as soon as Link turns his back. Not much else is known about
this character.

The Gorons
The Gorons are a race of rock-eating creatures who live on Death
Mountain. They are a peaceful race who want nothing more than to roll
around all day, eating hot lava and rocks. Unfortunately, they
possess the Spiritual Stone of Fire which Ganondorf wants. They
refused to hand it over when he asked them for it, so he sealed
the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern, their primary source of
rocks, and filled it with all sorts of dangerous creatures.
Fortunately, Link came by and offered to help them out. He
talked with the Goron leader, Darunia, who agreed to give
Link the Spiritual Stone if he could clear out Dodongo's Cavern for
them.

The Zoras
Another race of creatures living in Hyrule
are the Zoras. The Zoras have been in
Zelda games since the beginning, but in
the earlier games they were enemies
instead of friends. In Ocarina of
Time
, the Zoras are lead by King
Zora and his daughter Princess
Ruto. These aquatic creatures reside
in Zora's Domain, and are the
guardians of the Spiritual Stone of Water.
Their guardian god, Lord Jabu-Jabu, is a
giant fish inside of which Link must travel to obtain the Spiritual Stone.
When Link becomes an adult, Zora's Domain is completely frozen over,
and all the Zoras (except Princess Ruto) are trapped under a sheet of ice,
which supposedly melts when Link defeats the source of evil inside the
Water Temple.

The Gerudos
The Gerudos are a race of women who will stop at nothing to keep men
away from their fortress. Only one man is born into their race every
hundred years, and that man must become their king. Unfortunately,
the last man born a Gerudo was Ganondorf. Nabooru is second-in-
command after Ganondorf, and she hates him more than anything
else. After meeting Link, the Gerudos realize that not all men are bad,
and accept him as a member of their own. When Link first truly meets
Nabooru, she is trying to get inside the Spirit Temple, the hideout of
Ganondorf and his minions. She is too big to squeeze through the tiny
hole leading inside, so Link goes in for her.
