Pros and Cons
This section of my page, which I call Pros and Cons is basically my view of the game - the good points and the bad. This section will sum up what I thought of the game as I played it, including music, difficulty, graphics, story, and other things that had to do with Ocarina of Time. Send me your impressions of the game. I'd like to know how other people view one of the greatest games of all time.
Pros
- The graphics in this game were amazing. The 3-D environments were incredible, and the use of color was stunning.
- Ocarina of Time had great sound. Attention was really payed to things like different surfaces that Link hit and walked on.
- The game's story was good too. Many people could argue that all the Zelda games are the same, but really they're not. In every game, we learn a little more about the main characters, the Triforce, and why it's so desireable.
- I liked the items and weapons that were used in this game. Nintendo put in some classics like the bomb and the boomerang, and kept re-inventing the game with items like the Fire Arrow and the Lens of Truth.
- The puzzles in Zelda 64 were fairly challenging, which is what makes a Zelda game a Zelda game.
- Things like Gold Skulltulas and Heart Container Pieces gave this game a whole lot of replay value. Not only is finding all these hidden items challenging, but it also makes the second time around more fun.
- I like how when Link is young, the environment is smaller, but when he is older, the world shrinks a little.
- The day/night feature in Zelda 64 was absolutely amazing. Not only did it make all 100 of the Gold Skulltulas harder to find, it adds realism to the game.
- Most of the environments in this game were huge, and many times you don't notice things the first time around. A lot of thought and skill, as well as attention to detail definately went into the making of them.
- The camera angles in this game were for the most part great. About 95% of the time I could see where I was going, and everything around me quite well. The first-person view was also good in this game, because you didn't have to keep zooming in and out of Link's view; you could hit C Up once, and see 360 degrees around you.
- I liked how you could cut up signs, because (especially for beginners) it gave you practice with many weapons, and it was fun.
Cons
- I didn't like how the music was changed from the Zelda 1 and 3 Hyrule song to this new one. Don't get me wrong - it's still OK music, it's just not quite the same.
- Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the music. There were a few good songs, but most of them were just above average.
- Occasionally, Link and/or his sword, shield, (etc.) went through things. I think this could've been fixed, for the most part.
- The biggest kick-in-the-pants was that the Triforce was missing!!! The ending was fun to watch, but where's the Triforce? You hear that it wouldn't make the story make sense if Link got it, but I think they could've altered it just a little so that you at least see (if not obtain) the Triforce in person.
- I think that you should've been able to explore Hyrule after you beat the game - just to see how everyone's doing, run around the castle, maybe find a few new secrets, and see Zora's Domain unfrozen. And what's with the Scarecrow's Song at the end?
- Why did Zora's Domain never unfreeze? As clearly stated by Shiek, Morpha was the cause of the ice. I know it was said that the ice would eventually melt, but that should've been after you've beaten the next temple, or something.
- What's with the Great Fairies? The nice-looking blue ones were taken out for some reason, and these fairies were put in. They don't even look like fairies!
- Although it isn't a big deal, Link's shadow wasn't complete. It was just his feet.
- If you play a warp song, and warp before the song is over, the song just cuts off. In the case of warping to Lake Hylia, there isn't even a sound effect when the blue lights are turning into Link above the Triforce Icon.
- Although the Gold Skulltulas were fun and hard to find, it wasn't worth it. The prize is 200 Rupees, which is the worst prize out of all the ones you get.
- I think camera angles like the one in the Market should've been taken out and replaced with the normal one.
