Our son Cody James was born on November 28, 1994 with TGA (Transposition of the Great Arteries) as well as VSD (ventricular septal defect). In laymans terms this means his aortic and pulmonary arteries were transposed and he had a hole in his heart.
When Cody was 2 days old they put another hole in his heart called an ASD (arterial septal defect) to help the blood flow until he was ready for surgery.
He had surgery at Childrens Medical Center of Dallas to correct the defects when he was 9 days old. Dr. Hisashi Nikaidoh and Dr. Steven R. Leonard and their team performed their miracles on our precious baby boy and he received excellent care afterwards from some very special angels (nurses) to whom we will always be grateful.
Cody had yearly cardiac checkups with Dr. W. Pennock Laird until he was 9 years old, now his cardiologist is Dr. Lee Ann Pearse. She is an awesome pediatric cardiologist with a very warm and friendly bed side manner. She makes us all feel very comfortable, which is a very important quality for a heart doctor to have.
Despite a heart murmur that can be quite loud when he's sick, Cody is now a very healthy, happy, active 11 year old who is involved in soccer and loves school (espcially his teacher, Miss Blasingame!) He also loves video games (what 11 year old boy doesn't?). His favorite series is Legend Of Zelda.
Even though Cody is almost 12, I still haven't gotten around to uploading pictures from his 3 week hospital stay. But if you have any questions, please email me or sign the guestbook and I'd be happy to respond. |
