There Was a Child Went Forth

There was a child went forth one day,
And the first object she look'd upon, that object she became.
And that object became part of her for the day or a certain part of the day.
Or for many years stretching cycles of years.

The Florida sunshine became part of this child.
The sky and trees, and chameleons, and yellow and black bumblebees, and the essence of the ocean.

And the salt of the water and the songs of the birds and the huge bugs and the small shells.
And the enormous waves crashing upon the shoreline.
And the sea creatures of the deep and the beautiful beaches.
And the land with all its mysteries, all became part of her.

The smiling faces and the beautiful creatures became part of her.
Endless sunshine and nonexistant snow, and the feel of the sand beneath her feet.
And the gulls flying overheardand the glow of the moon at night, and the flowers and the little things.
And the serenity of the scenery looming all around.

And the coldness of the tile flooring, And my favorite dog, and the lengthy snakes.
And the youngness of my grandmother, and her flowing gentle hair and my remembered friends and family.
And all the differences between the city and the country, wherever she went.

Her own parents that he had father'd her and she had conciev'd her in her womb and birth'd her.
They gave her afterward everyday, they became part of her.

This poem was written for my English class. I used another poet's format. So not the whole poem is mine. But I'm not copywriting.
