The famous Chapter 585 Chili Hop. Held at theWatervliet Airport (40C), this event brings pilots from all over the Mid-west as it doesn't really get started till late morning. The October weather can be brisk, but the fall colors are worth the flight. This event includes cider and doughnuts, and of course CHILI !! A hay ride around the airport is always popular for both young and old. |
EAA Chapter 585 events for 2009 |
July 4 & 5 2009 |
Two day fly-in at the Watervliet Airport (40C). Saturday is a casual day with a steak fry going on most of the day. Much fun flying exploring the surrounding area. Lake Michigan is just a few minutes away. Sunday morning brings the usual pancake breakfast with the campers first in line. This is a great chance to camp with your airplane without the Oshkosh crowds, or to practice for the big event. The annual week-long Fourth of July festival will be in full swing in Watervliet. There will be a carnival and many other events going on around town. There will be fireworks Saturday night at Hayes Park, adjacent to the airport! |

It was a little damp for the Chili Hop in 2001. Here the airport manager, Bob Lohr, is checking runway conditions. We did get a few arrivals that were familiar with the conditions at the airport. Also had many drive-ins to enjoy the Chili. The young eagles (make that otters) got a chance to try out canoeing. |
