Those Christmases of Past
Copyright Alice E. Steimle - 2002
How I remember those Christmases of past
Two precious babies I had, I wanted it to last
You drove that little car around the house
Brum, Brum, Brum, could scare away the mouse

Years went by, your grew up so fast
Again I can think of Christmases of past
James wanted Hugo, and Andrew a toy gun
All I could do was turn away, there'd be no fun
1976 was the year of the nightmare for me
Your father left us without a Christmas tree
Andrew wanted a fishing pole, James wanted a bike
Once again I turned my head; think I'll take a hike

Didn't you know how I loved you, my precious little one
You were all I had, God's gift to me a son
Your Nana tried to hide things; she did her very best
She'd tell you stories when I needed to rest

Christmases past, many we couldn't share
Your Father said, "I'm sorry they won't be there"
How I would cry on Christmas day
When he came to take my precious babies away

Remembering more Christmases of the past
How I wanted them to fly by fast
One was far away, a blue Christmas for me
As you were traveling far, sitting under a coconut tree

The other one sat home with me, "Mama, it will be ok
He said that he could call you on Christmas Day
Promise me you'll be happy, and dry your tears
There will be more Christmases to make up for these years"

Now Christmas is coming again once more
Won't L'il Angel Reb be glad  when I open the door
These two handsome boys will be coming home to me
This year there will be presents and a Christmas tree

So let's be merry and have a day of cheer
Christmas day  soon will be approaching and near
Pies to make, and a turkey to stuff
This year for Christmas just won't be enough
