For futher info contact: Marti Perhach The Jesse Cause 1-877-HALTGBS mgperhach@earthlink.net July 2002 is the Second International Group B Strep Awareness Month co-sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and The Jesse Cause Saving the Babies from Group B Strep
Group B strep is the leading infectious killer of newborn babies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Thankfully, a recent protocol change to test all women in their 35th to 37th week of pregnancy will help reduce the number of babies affected by this bacteria, which can cause death or mental retardation, blindness, deafness, and cerebral palsy in the survivors.
