My Sweet Kaiser
February 8, 1991 - February 11, 2004
Kaiser, You protected me when I was in trouble. You comforted me when I was sad. You gave me a "kissy bye bye" when I'd leave, And you'd welcome me with a wiggling tail when I'd come home. When you were happy you bounced around and folded your sqeaky newspaper. You'd snuggle up when you weren't feeling well. You'd guilt us to pet you till our hands were numb. But you will always be remembered, loved, and missed very much. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. I'm sorry and I miss you and I love you Kaiser!
These two were of Kaiser the day before he died.
Kaiser always loved wearing his sweater.
Kaiser was 13 years old when we reluctantly had to put him to sleep. He had bladder cancer, a heart murmer, cateracts, and arthritis. We decided to put him to rest before he started to suffer. He lived a happy life right up until the end. He was very much loved by all of us. He was 3/4's Miniture Schnauzer & 1/4th West Highland Terrier.
Kaiser as a puppy when we first brought him home.
Kaiser was the cutest puppy. When we brought him home, he showed his first signs of being a goofball by crawling onto dad's back and just sitting there. He always thought that if he couldn't see you, then you couldn't see him; so when playing hide n' seek, he didn't do a very good job. He was a scardy cat. As a puppy, he started out sleeping in the kitchen. If we forgot to turn on the stove light, he would sit and cry until we did. He never did get over being afraid of the dark. Even when he was older, if he was even just in the living room and it was dark and he was by himself, he would sit in one spot and just keep on barking until you'd turn a light on for him. Growing up, we fed him "Kibbles 'n Bits 'n Bits". He only liked the little orange stringy things and the little white pillow things. He would drag his food bowl to the other side of the kitchen, dump it out, and then drag the bowl back. But Kaiser's favorite foods were pizza, peanut butter, and the crust of peanut butter toast.
He would only play with two kinds of dog toys: the squeaky newspapers and the squeaky hotdogs. He would run around the house with them and bark with them in his mouth and then he's stop and use his mouth and his paws to actually fold it in half and then run around more and bark. He was so weird.
|
Whenever you would scratch Kaiser's belly, his back legs would stick straight out and his front legs would go up in the air and go stiff. You could even put a little bit of pressure on them and he'd hold them straight.
Kaiser and I always had this game that we'd play. He'd go in the foyer while I'd go hide somewhere in the house. Then once I'd give the ok, my sister would let him out say "Kaiser, go find Sarah, find Sarah. Kaisey." He would run around for hours until he found me. It was so funny to watch him check every hidding place he could find and he'd never give up hope till he found me.
Whenever I was sad, Kaiser could just tell. He'd come snuggle up next to me and just sit with me till I'd feel better. He loved attention and he loved to be petted. If you started, he would not let you stop without putting up a fight. If you stopped, he would take his head and nudge it under your hand and kind of push your hand onto his head. And he didn't give up easily. If you stopped again, he'd try again. And then he'd climb up further onto your lap and snuggle his head under your chin and give you a "kissy" as we called it. If you tried to stop again, he'd get upset and crawl to the other end of the couch, plop down for a minute and just stare at you, then he'd come right back to your side and roll onto his back and kind of smack you with his paws to get your attention.
Kaiser always loved to "give kissys". He would snuggle his head up under your chin and that was called a "kissy". He wasn't one of those dogs that liked to lick you and so this was much better. If I was leaving the house, I'd say "bye bye kaiser" and he'd come running to the back door and give me a "kissy bye bye" before I left. Then when I'd come home, he'd greet me at the door with his little stub for a tail wagging side to side and his little butt would wag opposite the stubby tail.
Kaiser sitting on his blanket on the arm of the loveseat.
Kaiser was so lazy when he wasn't playing, eating, pooping, or watching out the window at the people going by. He just loved to sit on the leather lazy boy recliner. And he really loved to lay on blankets. And even more so, to lay on blankets and pillows on the recliner or the couch or loveseator on a bed. The loveseat was basically his. We had his blanket layed out on it all the time and his red pillow. And you'd often see him snoozing there.
Here, a shaved Kaiser is wondering who woke him up.
We always tried to teach him to bark at the door when he had to go out. He never picked up on it. Instead, he'd go to the door and just sit there. So if we were in another room, we'd have no idea. And he would just keep on sitting there till we realized it. He always had a favorite tree too that he always had to go potty on. In the winter, we had to shovel pathways from our back door out into the yard and around his tree. If you didn't shovel a way for him, he'd stand there and look at you. None the less, Kaiser loved being outside no matter what time of year and he also loved playing in the snow.
George Sand once said: "There is only one happiness in life, to love and be love." Kaiser was such a great dog. I believe he was happy here and that he loved us and we certainly loved him. Nothing could ever take his place in our hearts and we will always deeply miss him.
