Horse Words Glossary
barrel = the midsection of a horse

broodmare = a mare used for breeding

colt = a male baby horse

farrier = the person who trims horses' hooves

filly = a female baby horse

foal = baby horse of either sex

forelock = the bunch of hair that rests between a horse's ears

frog = the triangular shaped area on the bottom of a horse's hoof

gelding = an adult male horse who has been neutered

in foal = pregnant

mare = an adult female horse

mane = the long hair along the back of a horse's neck

stallion = an adult male horse who has not been neutered
