HARRY
AUGUST 1998*
Harry
I saw Harry in the communal cage at a pet shop.  I wasn't looking for a bird - I had Wesley (my most precious baby) and didn't want another.  But there she was, a tiny scrap of a thing.  All the other birds were picking on her.  I had to rescue her.... so I bought her and a cage and all the things she would need.

Sadly Wesley died three weeks later, so I was glad to have Harry.  I thought she was a boy - hence the name (after my Grandfather).  I hand tamed her and tried to teach her to talk (with no luck).  I should have realised when she began painfully chewing on me that she was a girl.

When it became obvious that Harry was not a boy I went out to find her a male companion.  I got Eddie.  The shop promised me Eddie was a boy.  Eddie turned out to be Edina!  Harry hated her.  So for a long time I kept them in separate cages.  But poor Eddie was miserable on her own, so one day I put them together.  At first I thought all was well, but a few mornings later there was blood everywhere - all over the bedroom walls, inside the cage, over both birds.  Harry had obviously attacked her.  So Eddie went to live in a big aviary where she would have other birds for company.

Finally I got
Linus - again an unplanned purchase.  After some time taming him and teaching him to talk he and Harry moved in together, and are now deeply in love.  They are so cute, kissing and cuddling like a couple of lovebirds (pun intended!).
