Battle of the Alma

V1.1

Notes

The command structures of all 3 main armies have been altered to reflect the way they fought. In the case of France and Russia, their brigades are essentially divisions, and the regiments form stands. The same has been done for the British, but for very different reasons.

Some of these units were historically kept in reserve, and are only available if the player is willing to pay VPs. Each of these costs 1 VP to activate:

  • British 3rd Division
  • British 4th Division
  • British Light Brigade (and Horse Artillery)
  • Turkish Forces
  • French 4th Division
  • French Cavalry Brigades (each)

The artillery of unactivated units may still be positioned within it’s command radius and may still fire. Similarly, unactivated units may still fire at units which coming into range

The British have Rifle-Muskets, except the British 4th Division (excepting the Rifle Brigade Bn in the Div), which has smoothbore muskets. The French Zouave, Chasseur and Tirailleur units have rifled-muskets, the remainder smoothbore muskets. The Turks and Russians have smoothbore muskets, except 6th Rifle Battalion who have breachloading rifles (Dreyse Needleguns).

Basing for units is:

  • British Infantry: SP2 Linear Stands
  • British Rifle Regiment: deploy as either an SP2 linear stand or 2x SP1 Skirmish Stands
  • British Cavalry: SP1 Linear Stands
  • French Infantry: SP3 Massed Stands
  • French Rifle Battalions (Chasseurs a Pied and Tirailleurs indigenes): SP1 Skirmish Stands
  • French Cavalry: SP2 Linear Stands
  • Turkish Infantry: SP7 Mass Stands
  • Russian Infantry: SP7 (full strength) Mass Stands
  • Russian Naval and Rifle Battalions: SP1 Skirmish Stands
  • Russian Cavalry: SP3 Massed Stands
  • Russian Cossacks: SP1 Skirmish Cavalry Stands

Victory

VPs are scored for:

Each exhausted enemy stand: 1

Occupation of the 3 Redoubts at the end of the Battle: 1 each

Unit activation: -1
