Children of the New Sun | |||||||||
Elucidation of Beliefs of the Path of New Breath | |||||||||
The following are beliefs that have been espoused by several other major denominations (in fact, I lifted them from descriptions put forth by the religion selector at Selectsmart.com). I list them here in order to highlight the similiarities of their stances and my own. What follows is only a description of the path that I, Nova Psyche, am in the process of walking. While many of my beliefs may coincide with those of the Children of the New Sun Ecclesia, Enclave, and Collective, they are not wholly indicative or representative of the full range of beliefs that are supported by the Mother Community. Please contact me if you'd like to find out more, or visit the community's main page, which details our general tenets. |

General Description Sometimes referred to as secular, modern, or humanistic [as Liberal Protestant]. A diverse organization comprised of mostly atheists, non-theists, agnostics, Humanists, liberal Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Neo-pagans, New Age practitioners, Taoists, and others [as Unitarian Universalist]. Includes various sects, schools, and trends [as Mahayana Buddhism]. Tenets are changeable, and beliefs are considered symbolic [as Reform Judaism]. A wide range of personal and individual beliefs and practices influenced mainly by eastern religions, paganism, and spiritism [as New Age]. Diverse beliefs that (can) emphasize GOD's presence for practical purposes, such as healing and success [as New Thought]. A community of faiths bringing pagan and magickal traditions to the modern age. Various beliefs with many elements in common. Some find no incongruence practicing one particular faith along with adherence to another faith [as Neo-pagan]. |
Belief in Deity The concept of a supreme, Creator God is rejected or at least considered irrelevant [as Theravada Buddhism]. God is Spirit, Principle, Life, Truth, and Love--the All-in-All [as Liberal Quaker]. Not considered important [as Secular Humanism]. GOD is the impersonal life force, consciousness, ultimate truth and reality, the incorporeal, formless cosmic order personified within all people and matter [as New Age]. |
Incarnations We are all sons and daughters of GOD [as Liberal Protestant, Liberal Quaker, and Christian Science]. God is manifest within all as the light [as Orthodox and Liberal Quaker]. We are all incarnations of GOD [as Christian Science]. Jesus of Nazareth merely showed the way [as Christian Science, Unitarian Universalist, and New Thought]. Gods are humans who attain enlightenment and are (thus) liberated [as Jainism]. GOD reveals and manifests through all in the universe, but no finite form can be worshipped as GOD, who is infinite [as Sikhism, and New Age]. Many of the world's prophets, including Jesus and Buddha, are viewed as incarnations of the Christ [as New Age]. All of nature and the universe are considered embodiments of GOD, worthy of respect, reverence, and worship [as Neo-pagan]. |
Origin of the Universe and Life The Bible's account is symbolic [as Liberal Protestant, Reform Judaism, and Unitarian Universalist]. The universe and humans are reflections of GOD [as Christian Science]; illusions, or delusions, of a material world result from error in thought and ignorance of the nature of reality [as Christian Science, and Mahayana Buddhism]. It is considered the job of scientists to explain origins of the universe and life; questions of origins are considered irrelevant to the goal of enlightenment [as Theravada Buddhism]. The universe is eternal and infinite and operates under its own cosmic law [as Jainism]. The universe, life, and matter were not created by GOD but "are" GOD [as New Age]. |
After Death No soul remains after death [as Jehovah's Witnesses]. An afterlife or spiritual existence after physical death is not recognized [as Humanism]. No belief in direct reward and punishment, heaven and hell, or the second coming of Jesus [as Liberal Quaker]. Death is the belief in death. There is no death as human life is immortal spirit [as Christian Science]. Heaven and hell are not places, but states of consciousness [as Christian Science, Unitarian Universalist, Reform Judaism, and New Age]. The primary focus is non-dogmatic--GOD is love, love is eternal, and our actions in life should reflect our love for all humanity [as Liberal Quaker, and Unitarian Universalist]. |

Communication with the Divine We believe in and practice gnosis--the direct communion with GOD by way of self-knowledge. Redemption lies in the realization of oneness with the impersonal life force, thus unlocking one's healing potential. Awareness can be heightened through methods that induce altered states of consciousness (e.g., hypnosis, meditation, music, drugs), and through intercession (e.g., crystals, tarot cards, amulets, fortunetellers, psychics, channelling) [as New Age]. |
