The premiere of the fantastic Rock Against Racism (RAR)/LMHR FILM "Who Shot the Sheriff?", directed by Alan Miles, featuring all the key bands and activists from the RAR movement that stopped the National Front in the late 70s, mixed with rare footage of RAR gigs like the infamous '78 Carnival in London's Victoria Park - featuring the likes of The Clash, Steel Pulse, The Specials and many more. Plus! as-yes-unseen footage of recent LMHR gigs like Pete Doherty and Estelle playing In Trafalgar Square and The Libertines jamming with Mick Jones from The Clash at the Astoria last year.
"Woop Woop! You can never kill the sound..." SONIC BOOM SIX appeared on the Manchester Punk scene in April 2002 and set about establishing a loyal local following with their own Sonic Boom Collective gigs and supports with the likes of Capdown, Jesse James, Lightyear and Shootin' Goon. It is fiendishly difficult to convey their sound through words. 'Miss Dynamite fronting Capdown' has been one of the closest attempts to nail it, 'Notting Hill Carnival on a Punk CD' is another; the truth is that SB6 are a group in the tradition of UK punk bands such as The Specials, The Clash and King Prawn that push the musical envelope by mixing contemporary underground sounds of the UK with a rocking live show. Sonic Boom Six's genre-terrorism attacks the urban sounds of Ragga, Hip-Hop, Bhangra and Jungle, adds a blast of Dub and Reggae and detonates with a heavy helping of hardcore Punk Rock. Their self-titled demo was recorded with Jerry 'Dutchmaster' Melchers (Capdown, King Prawn) and self-released in October 2002. To support the release, SB6 toured the UK with New York Ska veterans The Toasters, London Wildstyle merchants King Prawn, Widnes Art Wizards Zen Baseballbat as well as touring with (and appearing as the backing band!) with NYC Ragga-core exponent Coolie Ranx (ex-Pilfers/ Toasters). The debut EP 'Sonic Boom Six: The Turbo EP' dropped in September 2003 on Moon Ska Europe just in time for a complete UK tour with infamous labelmates Whitmore and newcomers Chairmen of the Bored. At the production helm of the EP is guitar effects record-breaker, former Skunk Anansie axeman and all round London music legend, Ace. It received great reviews around the Internet and fanzine scene, the Turbo EP spread the word about SB6 fast across the underground. In late September Sonic Boom Six performed a session on Radio 1's flagship Punk show 'the Lock-Up' which enhanced their reputation further as one of the most important new bands to come out of the UK's Ska-core scene. Early 2004 saw Sonic Boom Six re-uniting with Ace and Christophe (the team behind the Turbo EP) to record an EP "Sounds To Consume". Which in turn was "upgraded" to a release as an 8 track mini-album CD, featuring the tracks from the "Turbo" EP and promo videos for "The Rape Of Punk To come" and "People Acklike They Don't Know". After numerous support slots the band were invited to join the current "Three Way Dance" tour alongside Adequate Seven, and The Peacocks. Expect the unexpected. Welcome to the Temple of Boom. " I get the feeling SB6 will become one of those - 'I heard them before you did' bands because their sound is so distinct and challenging. And a hella good ride too." Everett Morton (drums) Ranking Roger (vocals) Saxa (saxophone) Blockhead (keyboards) Neil Deathridge (guitar) "Ranking Junior" aka Murphy (vocals) Andy Pearson (bass) and Mark Hamilton (saxophone). After the split of 80's ska band The Beat, Everett, Saxa and Ranking Roger worked on many other projects. Ranking Roger and Saxa along with original Beat singer Dave Wakeling formed General public with former Dexy's Midnight Runners keyboardist Micky Billingham. Blockhead joined up with Birmingham vocialist Allan Watson to form Two Nations. They enjoyed some success in the mid 80's with an album and 5 singles released on Arista Records. General Public split in 1986 and 1988 saw the release of the solo album Radical Departure by Ranking Roger. He then went on to form another ska outfit, Special Beat. In 1988 Everett and Saxa became part of the International Beat along with Neil Deathridge and regular guest appearances by Ranking Roger and Micky Billingham. The International Beat enjoyed success both in the UK and in the USA. After the split of the International Beat in 1992, Neil met songwriter Tony O'Donnell and they performed together at many venues throughout the UK. Finally in 2001, Ranking Roger, Everett, Saxa and Neil got together again along with Tony O’Donnell and Andy Pearson who had previously worked with Roger. At the beginning of 2003, the band were joined by Dave "Blockhead" Wright on keyboards and The Beat reunion gig at London's Royal Festival Hall was a great success. In May 2003, after the depature of Tony O'Donnell, Twist and Crawl were joined by Murphy aka "Ranking Junior" on vocals and Mark Hamilton aka "Chiko" (son of Jazz musician Andy Hamilton) on sax. The Beat is back. Even with Dave Wakeling, David Steel and Andy Cox missing from the original line-up for various reasons, The Beat are enjoying massive success throughout the UK.
